Hello guys,

I am looking to buy a new badger brush and I am in a dilemma between three brushes. I face lather and bowl lather and I like brushes with soft tips and medium to high backbone. My three choices are:

1) Simpsons Commodore X3 best
2)New Forest Tubby 2 super badger 2-band
3)WSP Monarch HD 2-band

So what is your opinion?

Iasonas, there are many people happy with all three of these brushes for the purposes you describe. If you go with the Simpsons, you are virtually guaranteed absolutely faultless build quality. The specifics of the hair (density, softness) are somewhat variable. Purchase the brush either from the place that individually photographs each example or cultivate a relationship with a seller who will pick for you to suit your needs.

WSP certainly makes fine brushes. I am not personally a fan of the Monarch handle as I feel it is nearly a copy of the famous Kent design. The Tubby handles for me lack the panache of the Chubby. The WSP Stubby, however, is original and very functional.

Good luck in your search.

I would have to agree and say that the WSP Monarch 2-band is a very good brush. Good amount of backbone with very soft tips.
I have quite a few of the Stubby 26mm Superfine 2-bands which has the same hair and find them to be incredible knots for the price.
Good luck to you.

I've used a Simpson Commodore X2 and several WSP offerings. I have not used any brush from New Forest. I would take another WSP brush immediately over the Commodore. If you like the Monarch handle then I say it will be in your rotation sooner or later.

One thing is for certain though, out of the 3 you have listed there there isn't a bad one.

I would have to agree with Brian. The three are good overall brushes and you would be happy with any of them, I believe.

My choice would be between the Simpson and WSP. Dont get me wrong , the New Forest is an excellent brush , but not a fan of the Tubby handle.

I have a Monarch 2-band and was somewhat let down by the insufficient backbone, IMHHO. It does have soft tips.

You should try the same knot at about a 5mm shorter loft. Oh yeah!

I truly like the Colonel too.I had the 2 band and the best badger and both were great brushes.I don't regret that I sold them , but I wouldn't mind having them again. The handle is nice and comfortable to hold.

It's hard to beat a WSP 2 band of any stripe, even the lowly Prince 2 band is lights out.
