Last week I stopped at junk/pawn shop looking for some man toys. There was nothing of interest that I saw, until I headed out the door. There in the bottom of a case in a pile was a number of old, dirty safety razors with a note..9 dollars each.Overpriced I thought.I called one of the staff over and got the case opened and picked through the pile.I was inspecting them most were dirty and tarnished, water stained ...in a word ugly. The staff member volunteered "3 for twenty dollars".That was better.I picked out three and handed over a twenty.

My three picks were: a ball end aluminum handle Gillette tech,a blue handle Gillette Knack and a black handle Schick Krona(a razor I had been seeking).I took them home and sprayed them down with an alchohol/vinegar mix and let that sit about 8-9 minutes. Then I dropped them in a sink of hot water and lysol and let them soak overnight. The next day I sprayed them with scrubbing bubbles 3-4 times, rinsed them and scrubbed them with a brush followed by a light polish.

My first shave was with the aluminum tech....not very impressed.Maybe the all steel version is better. The next one I tried was the Knack.Much better .The tapered handle feels odd but comfortable .I like this one.

I have not tried the Krona yet.It is on deck for tomorrow morning,I'll post on it later.Astra green pack blades are the choice for these razor tryouts.

Nice finds. I picked up a Krona in the army surplus market in Ho Chi Minh City on holiday for cheap. It's become one of my favourite razors, I hope you enjoy yours!

I have used the Krona a few times and it is a good shaver.Although I think out of this bunch of razors I like the Knack the best.Something about the reversed slope of the handle and the twist ring location under the head gives it a very nice balance.

I need to try the Krona with some other blades as me and the astras do not work the best.I'll have to dig out some swords and derby's.Because I can feel the potential for a BBS in the krona.

For mild razors like Techs and Kronas, I like pairing them with Feather, Personna Med Preps, or other famously sharp blades.

I have an aluminum Tech and a Krona. They are right behind my '62 Gillette Slim. To me, they shave better than my Weber PH Bulldog YMMV.

Sorry about the pics folks.
My mother-in-law who lived with us died unexpectedly this past Thursday.Between taking care of the wife ,arranging things, cleaning the house for the wake and having to play catchup at work I have not been able to do much else.Maybe after the service Saturday I'll be able to do something.
