All,

After a couple of years of looking I was able to obtain an original Georgetown Pottery G1 scuttle. On a hunch, I sent Lori at Georgetown an email asking if she knew where I could get a G1 and the rest is history!! Not only was I able to get a G1, she also had a G2. (I’ll send specs/pics on it in a separate post). I have also been able to obtain a G3 and a G4. It is neat to see how the Georgetown scuttles have evolved over the years. I also plan to make a post with pics of all four together. Lori and her folks at Georgetown continue to bring us beautiful scuttles!!

Compared to today’s “modern” scuttles, the G1 is somewhat unusual looking. I have nicknamed it “Catfish”. If you have ever been fishing for catfish down South you will know why…the water opening looks like a catfish mouth (to my imagination). This is a fun hobby.

Here are the specs.

Outside Diameter – 5 and 5/16 inches
Height – 3 inches
Bowl Diameter – 4 inches
Bowl Depth – 2 and 3/4 inches
Water Volume – 7 ounces

Take care……..

Thanks for sharing that, Ed. That is a good looking scuttle, and it is really interesting to see how the scuttle have evolved.

Beautiful scuttle. I like the opening a lot. I have what I think is a G2 or G3 and now have the latest GT scuttle G12.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been able to obtain a G1, G2, G3, and G4. Imho, the differences in the G2 and G3 are subtle. I am busy with family right now. However, I want to get pics of the 4 scuttles along with the specs posted. I really like the early GP scuttles. I have bought and sold 2 G5s and 1 G20. These guys just did not work for me. I have my eye on the G12 but want to see some user reports.

Thanks,
Ed

Here is the G12 Ed. The inner bowl is about 4" wide and 2.5" deep. It holds approx 12 oz of water. It has been working great.

I had a G1 and a G2.

They were both lovely (the glaze was something like the one in the OP). As shave bowls, they were amazing.

However, they didn't hold enough water in the reservoir to keep the lather warm enough through my shave in my house at the time. It's a pity, as I liked them.

In slightly warmer climes, they would be perfect. As it is, I like a bit more capacity in the reservoir, so that my lather remains warm for long enough.

Still, when I see pics like the ones above, I want another Gerogetown scuttle. Biggrin
