I just received B&M Nocturne, I love it for the fall. I have only used it twice so far, but easy lathering and great scent for me.

Mike's Natural would be a great place to begin your journey into artisan soaps. He sells samples. But since he's had such demand he's suspended taking orders. You can get some at the Sharp and Shiny Shop: http://sharpandshinyshop.com/collections...ap-5oz-bar or Vintage Blades: http://www.vintagebladesllc.com/vshop/xc...turerid=37

For me this is the gold standard of artisan tallow shaving soaps.

All others vary in some way or another but this is a great start point.

Barrister & Mann's lather will explode faster. Mystic Water will confirm your faith in the shave gods as one day you'll get great lather and the next not. MdC will teach you that crazy shipping costs can be worth it if divided by the number of fabulous shaves you get. Stirling will deliver a vast number of fantastic shaves for a song.

If you want to be blown away by the luxury that can be achieved with tallowless, try Napa Soap Ocean Blend combo with ceramic bowl with synthetic brush, or HTGAM Synergy soaps.

The quality of artisan soaps has advanced greatly over the last decade.

If you're looking for a cream, you can't go wrong with Al's. His creams explode into a wonderful luxurious lather, and his scents are complex. If you prefer soaps, I'd probably start with Barrister & Mann, as they are easier to lather than Mike's, although they are of equal quality. I also enjoyed Nocturne, their new fall scent. If cost is of concern, consider Stirling, only $5 per puck and a quality product--many people on this board are fans of Anise (licorice), although I prefer Black Cherry--they both lather well. Have fun exploring the world of artisan soaps.

Mikes Natural. Great easy to lather. Good and slick. From what I've read lately it may take a bit before you get your soap. It's worth the wait.

Mike's natural Soap is the one place I think we all like... and his soap is worth waiting for.

Prairie Creations have some really good stuff to though, try her KISS Cream.

Go on Etsy and find Mundus Shave Soaps. Nice variety of unique scents made with tallow and lanolin.
You and your face will thank me later.
