Hey guys i keep seeing the red tub of Proraso, and I've never tried it. Is it any good? I have tried the AOS sandalwood which I really like. Any thoughts?

I got sent a Proraso Sandalwood tube with something I bought off the BST on another forum. I must say I don't care for the scent to be honest, however others claim to love it.

Too strong a scent or just bad smell?

Might want to get others opinions, but I much prefer TOBS sandalwood scent. To me the Proraso one is a bad smell and to strong.

It is a natural sandalwood scent, woody with some powder and strong..which throws some folks off, I like it though and it's very moisturizing and leaves your skin feeling great. Some prefer other sandalwoods, like TOBS, which have a more incense/cologne like artificial sandalwood scent. So it's basically up to you to decide which you prefer, I'd recommend getting samples and deciding before committing to a full tub/tube.

I picked up a tube (not a tub) of it on a whim last week and was pleasantly surprised. The scent is very clean and fresh, makes me think of an old-fashioned barbershop (which I'm sure was the idea). It pairs really really well with Floid Blue (or, if you prefer, Aqua Velva) and leaves my face feeling moisturized and smooth. It's definitely earned a place in my rotation, so much so that I'm working on a sandalwood soap of my own.

I like it but the scent is not like AOS Sandalwood. It is quite strong and I can smell it for a couple of hours after my shave.

It's an exceptional soap. You lose the pleasantly cooling menthol hit of the green, but you gain exceptional skin conditioning as a compromise. It's a fantastic winter option, and if you have the tub, you could easily diminish the scent (if you don't like it) by leaving the tub open to the air for a little while. Personally, I like the scent and don't find it overbearing or offensive at all. I don't find the scent to linger hugely on my skin either. The red tub and tube has the easy lathering of all Proraso soaps, which makes it a good go-to option when you're in a hurry.

I like the tub better than the tube too. Maybe it's just a by-product of having to travel a while to Australia, but the tub is drier and harder, which I find preferable when loading my brush.

I use the tub version, and face lather. It's become a favorite of mine. It is really slick, and I like the scent. It moisturizes a lot better than Proraso green.

I liked the scent. Generally, I find that the sandalwood products I have tried are too understated. The red tub smells very good, but I am not really a scent guy.

However, I tossed the tub because of others soaps that are clearly better performers, IMHO.

Very good description of the scents Arc. I have both and love both, but they are different.

I have a tub and like it. To me, the scent is understated, clean, and fresh as well. I keep it and the White tub on the shelf.

One of my favorite soaps. Great real Sandalwood scent. The performance of the new Proraso is better than the old formula. It's alot slicker and was great face feel when your done.

I have the cream version which to me smells awesome - a real sandalwood scent. It also lathers superbly and gives great skincare. No cooling sensation, but who cares - it's wonderful.

Sounds good, is there a big difference between this one and the TOOB sandalwood?

I believe the difference in scent is significant. To me, the TOBS is a strong cologne-ly fragrance, while the Proraso is a more natural scent. I personally do not care for the TOBS (and other strong, cologne-type fragrances), but I love the Proraso. Again, to me, the closest comparative scent to the Proraso Sandalwood is Art of Shaving, although the scents are slightly different.

I have a tub of the red Proraso soap (croap really). I find it to be fairly slick and protective enough for my straight shaves, though my tallow soaps are generally a bit slicker (Mike's or Tabac). The scent is not too strong in my oppinion (especially when compared to TOBS or any of the English big brand soaps or creams) and is much less reactive on my skin than the English brands which are stuffed full of chemicals.

The Proraso Sandalwood soap in the tub is more protective than the cream in the tube. I would recommend trying it. It's good value for the money.
