Drinking nasty Great Value Walmart Columbian. Makes me want Nescafe instant. What can I say, when I can I buy good beans, but right now this will have to do.

Cafe Lusso Gran Miscela espresso pulled on a Breville Dual Boiler.  I usually mix these beans 50/50 with decaf from Cafe Lusso or another roaster.  Makes for a great cappuccino in the morning.

Can't go wrong with that!  I used to drink Nescafe in milk when I was a teenager.  Loved it!  Still do drink it when I'm on the road and don't have access to my usual.

Attending the SCAA coffee expo this weekend, so too many!  Including the Tim Wendelboe coffees that I sampled at the La Marzocco cafe and showroom...

Peets : Major Dickason's Blend : Olympia Cremina

My interest in espresso first started with Peets.  I haven't brewed with it in a long time, but this yielded a very rich and comforting espresso/cap -  full bodied, chocolate, no acidity.

Although we do not go for packaged coffees that much, Major Dickason's Blend (the real life Dickason was a retired sergeant living in Berkeley, near Chez Panisse) sneaks into our kitchen from time to time when I get caught out between purchases of beans sold by specialty retailers (especially Sweet Maria's roasted coffee of the fortnight).  This week, however, we took advantage of a very tempting sale at Albertsons on Peets whole bean coffees to try a couple of packages (these days, not a pound, but only 12 oz.), at $6.99 each, of a new Peets blend, Big Bang.

Dang!  Big Bang!   It is surprisingly tasty brewed, as we do for our daily cuppa, in our Hario Nouveau vac pot.  We have not yet tried Big Bang in our GAT Carmen moka pot; we usually use Lavazza Kilimanjaro — the only ground coffee we ever buy — for moka pot brewing.  But tomorrow morning we are planing to do some beating on some heavy whipping cream to go with sliced Totem strawberries on waffles, and when real whipped cream is on hand, out comes the moka pot.  It will be interesting to see how Big Bang performs with that brewing method.

Interested to hear the continued report on Big Bang.  I saw it at Peets yesterday when I picked up "sergeant" D's and was curious...
