Today I'm starting with whatever is in the machine at the dealership (oil change). The "milk" tastes like oil so I think it's just heating and frothing a shelf stable coffeemate style creamer. I'm disappointed because I was excited when I saw the one touch machine.

When I get home I will have to make a proper shot.

yes, I do think the bottomless shots are denser.  The spouted portafilter shots seem to add some air to the mix.  Both are good, just different.

BTW, your Pullman tamper is pretty cool!

Thanks for the feedback, Tom. Dense = good in my opinion.

Thanks! I am a huge fan of Tiffany Blue... ahem, seafoam as us guys call it. :-) This tamper makes all the difference in the world. The little things add up in this hobby. Overlooked things like a precision filter basket and an oversized tamper really gives an edge in consistency. I always thought my Rattleware 58mm was all I needed. Little did I know... Wait, I still no very little. Everyday is a learning process with coffee.

Cup of the day:

West Oak Coffee (Denton, Texas) Guatemala Gesha

18g dose, 31g yield in 28 seconds

I tried a slightly coarser grind for a larger yield today to see how the Gesha tasted and it was quite yummy. Not as powerful as my typical double Ristretto shots, but very balanced. I dialed it for a 34-36g yield in 30 seconds and got some bitterness, so backed it off to 30-31g in 28 seconds for a much smoother shot. I may stick to these higher yields from now on. Who knows, it is fun to experiment sometimes!

That looks fantastic!

No photo of my "proper shot" that I alluded to this morning. But I also stopped in a local coffee shop for a tasty washed Burundi. Per the barista's recommendation (when I told him I wanted to bring out the sweetness that I could smell in the aroma) I went with a Chemex. I would have picked some up for home but it was $14 for an 8 oz bag. Pass, it wasn't that amazing.

Great looking coffees guys! Let's keep them coming, I enjoy seeing everyone's posts. 

Here's a little catch- up on my end, stuff from the past week through today.

Shawn (Sully) and I enjoyed coffee together last week at Figure 8 Coffee Purveyors here in Austin. It's always fun to talk shaving and have coffee with a great friend. Shawn had a Latte (Colombia I believe?), and I had a Kenya Cortado. Solid espresso and a neat spot.

This was one of the final shots from the Gesha the wife and I enjoyed last week, along with the " already extracted " portafilter. Great espresso for sure.

Finally, todays shot. 

Shawn's (Sully) home roasted Ethiopia Yukiro co-op.

Thanks for sharing my friend! Once dialed, I pulled a 31g shot in 29 seconds, from an 18g dose. Tasty shot, very bright and fruity with light cocoa notes.

To be honest, this is not my favorite coffee from this roaster. I prefer brighter/sweeter espresso and this tastes "good", but I can't seem to get the brightness I am seeking no matter the grind setting. Oh, well. You cannot win them all! It still tastes good, and it's caffeine!

Yesterday - never used a clear cup before. Its about a 6oz cappuccino, and I like the layering but it is more latte than cappuccino based on the ratio. No complaints, just an observation!

A nice home roasted Ethiopian.  19 grams in, 34 grams out, right at 35 seconds.  I really enjoy Ethiopian coffee and single origin Ethiopian espresso is just amazing!

Gig, nice looking Cappuccino. Glass is always interesting and is almost like a bottomless portafilter... You really get to see the drink naked. 

Shawn, that shot looks amazing! I need to come over and raid your coffee stash. The last home roasted Ethiopian you gave me was super tasty.
