Background

Last year I was pleased to review several innovative products by this new, Tennessee-based firm. The ATT Titan H1 stainless steel razor was the first. I saw very encouraging signs. The combination of design, engineering and construction, along with the durability of stainless steel, made it an heirloom-quality razor, in my opinion. Their design drew from early Gillette models, and added distinctly modern elements drawn from space age technology. The first razor of this very new company was well received by the shaving community, and quickly made ATT razors competitive with long-established manufacturers worldwide

Since then, Above The Tie has introduced an impressive array of new and innovative products, including the Atlas razor and 5- and 7-piece razor systems. These systems introduced a new approach to razor manufacturing. They utilize interchangeable stainless steel base plates into the three-piece razor design. The H, R and M base plated provide three levels of aggressiveness—from mild to very aggressive. Each component of the systems can be purchased individually or as part of a system.

Earlier this year, I had an opportunity to review the ATT razors and components, and to interview Stan Hickam, ATT's President and owner.

News

Within the past few days, I've been following recent developments at Above the Tie with interest. Here is the new news. It's hard to know where to start.

ATT has completed the design of an all-new stainless steel Open Comb razor system. The components are in early manufacturing and testing. The OC system will parallel current ATT systems in that three interchangeable OC base plates--offering different degrees of aggressiveness--will be available. The new OC components are fully-interchangeable with existing ATT component parts, and again the OC base plates may be purchased individually, or as part of a system. Stan's goal is to have the first production run available for the upcoming holiday season!

The "Kronos" name has replaced the Titan name on ATT's razor components. Stan indicated this is a name change only, and that there have been no other changes of any kind (material, design, manufacturing, etc.).

The ATT website is now offering an array of new products to further enrich their customers' experience. The Captain's Choice Bay Run, a clove-free alternative that highlights the scent of bay leaves, is now on my personal wish list.

ATT products are now available through a growing list of vendors, including Amazon, Connaught Shaving and Bullgoose Shaving Supplies. More to come.

When I reviewed Above The Tie's razors, I expressed my wish that ATT make available a case that reflected the heirloom quality of their razors. ATT announce yesterday a design that will be going into production. The case once again combines the marriage of early Gillette designs with up-to-date twists. The case is designed to hold nearly all three-piece razors. I think it's a handsome piece of old/new world craftsmanship.

Thank you Jim for the great presentation of things to come. Do you happen to know what the price on the travel case will be? The Kronos
and Atlas models in "H" for me are the best shavers out there.

I know Stan is working on setting the final price point. I told him what I paid for my Muhle case, and he was pretty sure he could do it for less! LOL

It seems todays marketplace seems to casually overlook the need for a quality case so its very refreshing to see this item.
