Went to work yesterday. Tuesday was my 30th wedding anniversary. Also my first day back at work after a trip to celebrate.

On my desk was a 15 years of dedicated service plaque.

One hour later I was pink slipped, laid off, riffed, toast, etc.

President of my unit flew in from Japan for the occassion.
Tells me the bad news. Then stands and wants to shake my hand as he thanks me for my hard work. I politely interrupted to say now was not the time.

On the plus side I get severance plus paid until end of year.

Life goes on.

Phil

Sorry to read this Phil. But I can honestly say I've been there, done that. It happened to me after 28 years of service. I was fortunate enough to have enough time in for full pension and benefits, so I said screw it and started drawing pension after the severance ran out. Two years later I started drawing early social security and I've never regretted it.

Well it keeps getting better.

I am freinds with most of the folks who sit at the security front desk throughout the day. One just called me to say I was banned from the site.

I had a visit from HR today who wanted me to be all touchy feely and I told her I was fine and shooed her from my office.

Now I have a "bad attitude" and am a risk. Sheesh.

Joked with the security guard, who was nice enough to call me tonight, that i am over 50 and overweight. I am no threat to any one.

Just venting. Thanks for all of the kind words.
Phil

Sorry to hear. HR can really be some insensitive jerks. The people skills of companies have really suffered over the years. No real understanding of what they are doing to folks.

Hope you find something that suits you better.
