How good is this stuff? When I first received my initial puck a couple months back from Phil I hated it. The scent was strong, kinda reminded me of an old bath soap I would find in my grandmothers house and the lather was terrible (mainly from me being a newbie and not knowing what I was doing).

A few days ago though I used it and have been using it for the past week. This stuff is incredibly smooth on my skin and it seems the Ivory bath scent is gone. I'm loving it more and more and could possibly see it becoming my go to soap.

Often referred to as "the fat", MWF is a top tier soap in all regards.

I get the best results using a big 2-band badger brush and taking extra time loading the brush and face lathering.

I tend to use it on weekends when I can take all the time I want.

I never really cared much for it, to be honest. It could be a bit tempermental at times to lather and the scent for me was only so-so. I find Mike's is comparable if not better for skin conditioning and shave quality and you have variety of scents to choose from.

In terms of lathering, Mitchell's seems to work quite a bit better with tepid water, rather than hot. Given that, for me it lathers beautifully, and I really like its skin care.

I really enjoyed the scent but never quite dialed in the lather so I sold my puck. I'm thinking of trying it again, if anything just for that lovely scent and post shave feel. I have other soaps with lanolin in them but none have the same post shave feel as the fat.

I'd try another puck , it really is quite good. I think problems arise because it does need a stiff brush like a boar brush to lather. Also storage is very important. The puck needs to be stored in an air tight container , letting it dry out and crack or soaking the puck repeatedly doesn't seem to help its performance. Face lathering it makes a big difference also.

I've found the little things make a big difference between MWF working or not for me. Boar not badger, tepid water on top the puck no soaking, storing in an air tight container, no drying, face lathering no bowl lathering.

Love it, love it, love it. I will never be without my MWF.

I never liked the way the puck fit into the ceramic container so, when I get a new puck I grate it then repack it into the ceramic container.

This process also seemed to help it lather better.

I'm undecided on the Fat. I get good shaves with it, but it seems like a lot of trouble. Every time I try to get rid of it, it keeps calling my name... maybe me and this soap were meant to be.

MWF one of the best soaps I have used where skin care is concerned. Also it may be a bit hard to get a lather from it at first, but just keep loading the brush and you'll find the sweet spot! As mentioned, I can agree with the fact that tepid water seems to work better!

I hope you enjoy it!

Cheers! Smile

The skin care/after shave feel is the best part of this soap for me. More than just about any other soap, my skin feels, soft, smooth and well hydrated. Definitely a great soap. I wish they made it in Lavender or something...

I feel that the fat is one of the best soaps I have tried for attaining a bbs shave without making the process long and drawn out. I love the smell, the after shave feeling is amazing, and the skin conditioning is phenominal.

Lathering was never a problem for me because I took note of the videos and suggestions as well having soft water. Exceptionally soft water...I have the thater 3 band tips of water.

That is not to say that I always loved it. People have talked about a close shave but when I first used it I would get such a close shave it was like some of my pores would start slowly bleeding. I didn't feel anything, there was no indication. But as soon as I switched razors (read bought a different razor) this has not happened a single time.

Once I was able to go through a shave without using an entire styptic pencil on my face I became a true believer. The fat is as amazing as it can be tempermental...if you can find all of its quirks its an amazing soap that provides a nearly one of a kind shave. Also with very limited experience mikes and stirling soap deliver similar shaves...but I've only had a couple shaves with each of those so cant say if the fat will have to defend its title just yet. But they also delivered great shaves

I love it and never have a problem lathering it. I bowl lather it as often as not. In water as hot as I can get it. Always a great shave with it. Top tier.
