Yes, you read correctly, the rumour has been around for a while now, but I can confirm that there is an updated model in the works.

I am aware there is a prototype in existence, I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but was promised an opportunity to do so.

Does anyone have any further information, or better still seen the prototype?

All those waiting for the existing model, I believe the next batch of Cobras will be available in December.

As for the Cobra 2... ? I don't think it will hit the market this year, but it can't be too far away...

Ben, I was also informed several months ago that a Cobra II is in development, and that the release date will hopefully be sometime in 2014. My understanding is that it will be a revised version of the current Cobra, and will be evolutionary as opposed to revolutionary. I was not aware of the existence of a prototype though.

My information mirrors yours Ravi!

The prototype has been around for more than a few months now, but last I heard it was still to be tweaked further.

With the resurgence of interest in the current Cobra and the mass of people searching the BST's for one I thought this may be of interest to our membership.

I predict that with the release of the new model next year the opportunity to acquire the original might become drastically easier.

I wonder if the thought of the Huntlee Katana in development had any factor in these developments???????

Harvey, I believe the two endeavours were born independently, but will assist each other by stimulating interest in SE as opposed to DE razors.

From what I'm aware, the Cobra and HuntLee will be sufficiently different in design for many to covert ownership of both models.

IMO the HuntLee does have a few major advantages in design, one of those being the ability to change handles.

I know the news of a Cobra 2 in no way detracts my anticipation of the HuntLee...

I'll be buying both!

Harvey, I heard about the Cobra II before there was any mention of the HuntLee, although I'm sure the thought of a potential competitor didn't hurt in terms of the Cobra folks pushing to update their product. In the end, this sort of healthy presence of more than one player in the market benefits the consumer IMO!

As Ravi indicated, the Cobra 2 will be evolutionary in terms of it's updates, whereas IMO the HuntLee is more revolutionary.

The Cobra 2 will no doubt instantly appeal to existing Cobra owners and while I am of the opinion that the HuntLee will also provide an irresistible temptation for Cobra users too, I believe it will also have a wider appeal encouraging more wet shavers to try an SE as opposed to DE razor...

John, although I can't confirm with any degree of certainty, my understanding was that the design changes are primarily supposed to address the blade holding mechanism in terms of accommodation of the blades. I'm not sure if the handle is also being tweaked as well. The other area that is being looked at is the 'gloss' of the plating/finish ... in terms of making it less prone to fine scratches, etc.

I wonder if the main thing about the Cobra 2 will be the old script at the bottom. To me, I don't see how they could improve on perfection. Also, like Ben I will be buying the Hunt Lee as the thought of being able to add a different type handle has me excitedBiggrin

In my experience, Classic Shaving is very good about sending an email alert once new stock is anticipated i.e. if you're on the email waiting list ... Smile

Never heard about this until now. I'll have to hold off purchasing both the Cobra II and HuntLee Katana until 2015 at least. Next year I'm on a self imposed shave purchase sabbatical. Biggrin
