I am one of those folks who enjoys his morning coffee caffeinated but if I have that same brew anytime in the afternoon or later, there is a good chance I will have trouble sleeping that night. Therefore, a good decaffeinated coffee would be great for someone like me.

Can anyone recommend good, flavorful decaffeinated coffee beans and where I might find them? Most coffee that is decaffeinated and pre-ground is at best fair and at worst pretty awful. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just keep in mind Freddy that decaffeinated does not necessarily mean caffeine free.

Thanks, Phil. I did already know that but the lower caffein level seems not to affect my sleep. For that reason, I can usually have tea, which tends to have less caffein than coffee, in the afternoon or early evening with no problem.

Have a look at this list. Most of them will probably have decaf beans

Your local Whole Foods should have them. Some of their SoCal stores roast coffee onsite and do a pretty good job. If you like dark roast any Peet's store will have decaf beans.

These are the guys I buy my beans from. Never tried the decaf. Also, don't deal with shipping.

Thanks Sam and Lee; I'll check them out. I have a Whole Foods very close to where I live so will meander over sometime in the next few days. Smile

Sam, as for Peet's coffee, I'm afraid I rate it right up there with Charbuck's as some of the most overrated awful coffee around. Sad

EDIT: Sam, I just read your article about San Diego's coffee scene and completely forgot about one of our local roasters, Café Moto. I have been there and actually purchased tea, though coffee is what they are known for. Thanks for the reminder.
