So, I made a DIY Scuttle out of a Salsa Bowl and a Berry Bowl. I've been having fun with it for a couple of weeks.

DIY Scuttle

Also talked about it on Episode 9 of my Podcast.

It's worked well so far.

I tried a heavier bowl that fit in the Salsa Bowl as well. Took a lot to heat it up though. It'd probably stay warm a long time. Course it would be hot in your hand while your whipping up a lather. So far the Berry Bowl is the one I use.

Oh, for crying out loud! I already dropped all of $1.50 on the salsa bowl. Now, what, another buck or two on that silly Berry Bowl. Jeeze, I thought this was all about SAVING $$$

Neat idea!

I never understood what a scuttle does exactly, it keeps the lather warm? Is warm lather better?

Just feels better going on since it's warm. Helps more on after the first pass when soaps would normally get cold. It's easy enough to try out first with cups and bowls in your kitchen cabinets. You could improvise a scuttle with two of them or just fill your sink and place your lather bowl in that hot water.

For me, I notice a slight difference in my shaving experience but it's not a major thing. I can take it or leave it. Then again it rarely goes below 55 degrees here on the coldest mornings and the heater keeps the house at 68. If I lived in an area where I could see snow outside I would use a scuttle just for the psychological aspects of keeping myself warm!
