I face and head lather only; which brush would you recommend and why? I found the Duke 3 in best to be rather prickly - may have been luck of the draw.

Thanks!

Depending on how large and dense you like your brushes/knots, the Chubby 2 Super has very soft hair and is extremely dense. It is probably one of the densest brushes you will use.
The Chubby 2 2-band is even softer, but not as dense.
The Chubby 1 might be a bit too small for you depending on how you like your brushes.
Good luck, but either way, the Chubby 2s are fantastic and you can't go wrong with them.

It's a tough call. I really want to have a good experience with three band hair. I have zero experience with high end dense badgers.

Is there any scritch? I am not a fan

None whatsoever from my experience. With Best hair, you can get 'scritch', but I have never really heard of Super being describe as having 'scritch'. It is very soft and luxurious, but extremely dense. I think it is a fantastically luxurious brush. Keep in mind that some Best hair can mimic Super. I have seen more than a few folks say this. I highly doubt you will find the Super 'scritchy', in my opinion, but YMMV and I don't know how sensitive your skin is or what your interpretation of 'scritch' is. Good luck.

Ya I haven't read that either. It's a matter of size now and I think if I'm gonna do it, I might as well go all out

The CH2 Super in 3-band is undeniably a wonderful brush, with no scritch and wonderfully soft tips. These are seriously dense brushes ... in a good way.

I really don't think you will be disappointed in the brush, Bryan. You won't have any issues in selling it if you do. Biggrin
You will just need to get accustomed to its density and realize that you will need much more product than you usually use which you could say is the only down-side to this brush, but I am sure you probably have more soap than you need and if you don't, you might, soon. Biggrin

I was referring to selling the Chubby 2 Super if you get it and if you don't like it.

I've tried head lathering with my Chubby's in 3 band (best, super 3 band and 2 band) in both size 1 & 2.

I'd say it's the wrong brush for head lathering. You would need about half a tub of cream to feed it!

Try go for something less dense is my advice. Just last night I used my commodore x3 and it was great for the head.

I suggest you got for one brush for the face and go for a really nice quality of badger hair and another less dense brush for the head.

Bryan, do you like the handle size of the Duke 3? If so, why don't you consider a custom order Duke 3 in Silvertip(3-Band Super). I had the Best hair and also found it a little to prickly for my liking. I subsequently replaced it with a Silvertip and love the brush. Mark at Simpson would be very happy to oblige.

I've been talking to Mark and I think I upset him as I wanted to exchange the Duke I got. I don't know that he'd do that for me at this point otherwise I'd love that. The duke is would be incredible with a super knot.

I find that I need way more lather for my head shaves than face so excess lather is rarely ever an issue... Ever.

How much did that run you?

I can't remember the exact price but I believe Mark charged me somewhere in the region of £120. That was before Simpson raised their prices though.
Knot size is 23mm with a loft of 47mm. The knot shape is standard Duke that you'll probably have already in Best.

I'd recommend Chubby2 in 3Band Super...I love the feel of both Simpson 2 & 3 Band Super Badger...there is variance among all hair grades, but if you found Best hair to be a bit scritchy as you mentioned...I'd say Super soft 3-Band Super hair will be undeniably luxurious and silky smooth...2-band is amazing, but while being very soft, it is also resilient and less flexible hair, this may not fit your taste described above...You really can't go wrong either way... but Super 3-Band is sure fire luxury with far less variance than other grades IMO...Also chubby 1's are awesome brushes, but if you are going to buy a Chubby I'd say go size 2 or 3, they are truly unique... the Chubby1 void will be filled with your Duke 3! Good Luck, & Enjoy!!!!
