I am - in the mid to long term - looking to add to my small collection of brushes. For some reason the Vie-Long mixed horse-badger brushes are calling out to me, so I figured I would see if anyone here have any experience with them... and what y'all's opinion of them are.

The ones I'm looking at specifically is as follows:
- 14033: loft 53mm, knot 20mm
- 14091: loft 58mm, knot 23mm
- 15830: loft 57mm, knot 23mm

So what y'all think? Which brush and why - even if we all know YMMV, I still value everyone's opinions Smile

I had the Vie-Long 14833: Loft 55, knot 23mm

I'm not a huge fan of the horse/badger mix. I tend to lean more toward badger hair and was curious about a horse hair brush so I thought I'd just dip my toes in and try out the badger/horse mix. The horse hair is pretty firm similar to boar and sort of irritates my face even being in a combo. So it moved on to a better home.

I have the Vie-long 14096 with a 20mm/51mm knot. I really like it. It's a bit softer than the 100% horse, but has better backbone than a most 100% badgers of similar loft and density. It also has great flow-through.

I have the 14080 and I recommend it. The brush has a stunning handle...

The knot is a 20/52mm. As for the characteristics, I agree with nEver-Ready: the brush has a good backbone, great flow-through, and I personally don't find the tips unpleasant to use. It surely holds a place in my rotation.

Thank you all - it's amazing how much can be said about brushes without saying much at all, I now have a much better idea of which to pick and why Biggrin

I should perhaps have pointed out that I'm approaching this from the other side, as it were; my two favorites are turkish horse hair brushes, so this is like dipping a toe into badger territory Badger

I have the V-L LE HH/Badger Beehive on loan from Sully and am impressed with it so far. The badger gives it softness but the HH adds a bit of "scritch". I like the combination and it compliments the straight horsehair brushes nicely.
