If they have a "daylight" bulb they would be daylight balanced.

You can also equip them with "daylight" strobes as well. They make strobe bulbs with optical slave triggers built into the bulb that can be triggered with the camera flash .

But for most applications the regular bulb would be fine.

The daylight bulbs are standard in the lamps at tabletop studio.

Congrats Phil. Great setup, far better than what I have (of course I do not do product shoots).

Yes, Daylight bulbs are the default for lights. Incandescent bulbs vary in their degrees, and white balance is trickier at the lower K ratings of regular bulbs. Auto White Balance from all manufactures have some degree of difficulty with standard bulbs, and while daylight bulbs seem harsh to the naked eye, they are preferred for photography. Since flashes are "daylight", you want the rest of your lighting to match to keep colors and whites properly captured.

Thanks, Doug. I didn't know if these lights were truly photographically daylight or if it was "hardware store daylight" as an approximation of the effect for indoor ambient lighting.

With the ability to adjust white balance in modern digital cameras, I wondered if daylight illumination was still even necessary. Your point that these lights need to be compatible with flash (which is balanced for daylight) didn't occur to me and it makes a lot of sense.

My Kuhl light pad arrived yesterday afternoon. I hope to have some time to play around with it in the next few days.

I still need to experiment with the under light but, here are a few initial shots. It will take me awhile to dial it in but I think I will really like it.

Here are a few of the Kai Excelia Japanese Style razor that I just took. My next purchase will be a boom light for back-lighting.

Phil,

have you found it easier to sell products when you have more photos available?

Andrew, I'll be interested to hear Phil's reply. As a customer, however, having to buy products online without seeing and handling them in person, I find good illustrations very helpful.

+1 on this. Clear, sharp, and accurate photographs play a definite part in my on-line ordering.
