I'm going to try Arko for the first time tomorrow. I've decided to use it the most basic way by applying the stick on my face then lathering it with a wet brush. My question is this: for passes two and three, do you rub the stick on your face again, or should there be enough lather in the brush to just brush more on?

Really depends on the brush used and the amount of soap applied. But generally you will have more than enough lather for 3 passer Smile

I dont know if it depends on technique or brush but I was able to get PLENTY od lather with arko, but my brother had to relather it for each pass...I think his brush quality (tweezerman) was poor, and he has been wet shaving for almost 1.5 years less time than I have when he tried it. He LOVED it once I told him he was allowed to jam it into a cup...also tieste (im pretty sure spelling is correct?) Has an excellent "how to" lather with a shaving stick video

+1 This is usually how a shave stick works if done properly. There should be no need to use it again after the first application. Just make sure you get enough on your face. Good luck with the shave and the scent! Biggrin

Thanks for replies. I think I'm going to mash into a container for long term. But I want to try it the stick way before I mash it up.

If you find using the stick out of the wrapper is messy, or a hassle. I found using a used up deodorant stick a good option. I reapply after each pass.

+1 whats been written about using it from the stick. Especially if you have a heavy beard. It acts like a rasp and you'll have plenty of ARKO on the face for a great and plentiful lather.

It works fine shredded in a tub too.

It is a bit drying though.

It went well -- enough for three passes and touch up. But the third pass it was getting a little sparse, but generally the passes need less each time anyway. So it worked out about right.

This is another option. Shave Stick containers from WCS:

The WCS was what I considered doing -- will probably wait until my next order from WCS and throw one of those in.

For the price is is a good soap. For a little more money there is some better soaps but at that price it is one of the best.

I also put mine in a WCS twist up container. Glued the wrapper on with Elmer's. It fit perfectly.

I really like shave sticks so I have a lot of them. Here is what it looks like.

What do you think is the best shave stick? I just ordered a La Toja and I'm working my way through trying sticks.

Wow! The best!? YMMV and so does mine.

There are so many good ones. These few are just the ones I know of that work great.

(In no particular order)

Valobra
Speick
Tabac
ARKO
Boots
Palmolive

Then with the WCS tubes, pucks can be turned into sticks and that opens up so many I won't even try to name them all. But even w/o a tube a puck can be rubbed on the face just like a stick. Sticks also work turned into a puck in a tub which is how I use them.

This morning I made a proper Arko shave stick out of a discarded deodorant stick. It works great! (Jagged at top from the tamping, but goes on smooth and it will smooth out with use).
