I haven't lathered it yet, but off of the puck to me it smells like a very earthy fern. It doesn't seem to have the floral or citrus notes that other Fougere scents have.

Not what I got , unfortunately. More like what people describe Arko to smell like who don't like Arko.

I read somewhere that it is supposed to smell like the stick, but stronger. If that is the case I will not like it one bit Sad.

However, if one of the other scents can mask it a little like the C&S No88 does, I will be in heaven Biggrin

Hang in there Sandan! I didn't like the way Czech & Speake Oxford & Cambridge (made by Valobra) smelled at first. It's almost as if there was a top layer to get through to the amazing C&S O&C scent. Then again I also have the Valobra made AOS lemon, which doesn't smell like lemon (just this earthy, clay-like smell).

I hope you are correct, but it would have to go through a huge transformation. As of now its not very appealing at all to me.

I think the puck smells a like a stronger version of the stick.

I just got the puck of the Fougere yesterday. I am not impressed. It doesent smell any thing like what I expect from a Fougere. The performance is great, but the scent not so much.

Hi Paul - I think the term "fougere" gets thrown around, without much definition. Fougere/fern is more of group than a specific scent. For instance Czech & Speake Oxford and Cambridge (light, airy, ethereal) is a fougere but so is Penhaligon's English Fern (damp, earthy). Cool Water is a fougere, but to me it smells much more aquatic. In addition to aromatic fougeres, there are also oriental fougeres and those smell a lot different as well.

A final "for instance": MdC released their "fougere" soap but their original "scented" version is most likely a fougere.

Over on B&B, someone compared Valobra's Fougere to Houbigant Fougere Royale which is the original fougere.

And if you can't tell, I'm going for the world record for number of uses of the word "fougere" in this post!

We'll have to call Guinness. Also, one last mention: "fougere."

I've said it before, and will say again. Smile
None of the scents of the Valobra pucks are really good, specially when compared with the AOS scents that used to be applied on this exact soap basis.

I don't think the Valobra Fougere is anything like Arko scent-wise. Really the only thing similar to Arko is how people can't seem to agree about the smell.

After lathering and using it now, it seems to be a very old-fashioned soapy scent, like something I would find in my grandmother's house. There is also the usual Valobra earthy clay notes (usual from what I've heard, this is my first Valobra-made soap).

It's a bit disappointing, but I'm going to keep at it. I didn't like MdC Fougere at first but now it's one of my favorite scents (but is really nothing like this Fougere either).

But the performance was great though. Got a super-close shave with no irritation whatsoever.

The problem with Fougére is rather simple. Fern doesn't *have* a scent. Fougére is supposed to be reminiscent of what would amount to an earth floor (think forest) covered with fern plants. Everyone has their own interpretation of what that scent should be. Take MdC, honestly I think the Fougére smells just like the Lavender.

I had my reservations over the scents of these soaps and held off buying until the reports came in. Personally, I think I'll be staying away.

I love how different we all are and how we differ on so many things! Biggrin

* Josh, good luck with the record! Biggrin

* Doug, I can definitely smell the ferns most times when I go for a hike in the forest! Not overpowering, but there is light scent, but it doesn't remind me of shaving! Biggrin
