Here's this week's review I submitted to Mark for the Scent Off 2013. This review was for Petal Pusher Fancies soap entry - Ciderhouse 5. I was not familiar with this artisan soap maker before the Scent Off but I am very pleased that they chose to participate. I have been to their website and plan on adding some items to my Christmas Wish List.

Petal Pusher Fancies - Ciderhouse 5

Scent - 8
Performance - 10
Presentation - 3.5

This presentation of the Ciderhouse 5 soap from Petal Pusher Fancies had some extra touches. The soap while individually wrapped like a refill puck was inside a tin complete with logo label. Giving the owner the convenience of having the choice of placing the soap in the tin or in their favorite shaving container.

The scent of the soap was spot on to the name and seasonal theme of autumn. After the first couple of times I used the soap, I found myself with an image of walking out across a lawn filled with oak trees that had just begun to release their leaves and coming upon an apple house where apples are being processed and hot cider is available. There is a nice balance to the scent of the soap that offered a slight sweetness of apple and the accompanying scent of spice, and a more complex scent of fall and a cider stand on the edge of an oak grove. As an experiment I chose to build my lather in a shave bowl and wow the lather exploded into a spiced cider shave goodness that smelled so good I was tempted to place it on a slice of apple pie.

The performance of Ciderhouse 5 was fantastic. The soap readily responded to a damp brush by producing an abundant, rich, lubricating lather that provides some of the best hydration and conditioning available in a shave soap. This was my first time using a Petal Pusher Fancies soap, and I was very pleased with the performance of the Kokum Butter soap. This would be a great soap for someone starting the journey of wet shaving because the of the ease of building a lather and the superb performance of the soap as it provides a great cushion and glide for the shave. This soap provided some of the best hydrating and feeling of conditioning of any shave soap that I have had the pleasure of using.

I don't know how I missed Petal Pusher Fancies and their products before the Scent Off 2013. However, I will assure you that will not happen in the future as foresee an order being placed as they have my respect and admiration as artisan soap makers.

William, Great review! I used their Black Tea this morning it was everything you said in your review except the scent of course. The Black tea has a nice scent and is pretty strong but not too strong it matched the description on the website.

Thanks for the review!!

* Jesse, I have only tried their Sandalwood scent and the only other Sandalwood I have tried is Mystic Water Mysore Sandalwood which is also very nice. I have no other Sandalwood soaps to compare it to as I am very, very limited in my use of soaps. However, the PPF Sandalwood is a very typical Sandalwood scent as you would find in any incense, in my opinion.
Sorry, I couldn't be of more help! Blush
