I saw today on Gifts and Care that there are now available packs of Gillette Platinums, packaged differently than the 7 O'Clock Platinum Blues (my favourite blade but sadly MIA). These 'new' blades are packaged much like the current production Silver Blues.

http://www.giftsandcare.com/en/razor-bla...tinum.html

Has anyone tried these 'new' Gillette Platinums and how to they compare to the Silver Blues an the 7 O'Clock Platinums?

Could these be my recently lost blades in new packaging???

The Gillette 7' O Clock Black and Blues are my favorite along with the Gillette Minora's. I recently purchased 100 of the these Gillette Platinum's. I like them a lot but could not tell you if they are actually the same. I did see them a while back at an AOS Store but I don't know if there still offered there.

So, what were they like?

I have 10 on the way from the Romanian vendor on the bay. I am curious to see others feedback.

I still think that the St. Pete factory just changes printing and packaging on their blades every so often to re-brand blades for different markets or to create a new market?

At least they are more consistent in their marketing than Personna! Biggrin

Hmm, the same you say. I wonder if anyone else has been in a position to compare them? I guess in time someone may have a strong view.

Well, I guess there's only one way to find out. I have ordered 50 from the Rumanian vendor on ePay. Probably won't get them until New Year ( living in Sydney...zzzz). I'll report on them then. I have read elsewhere that they are as good as the 7 O'Clock Dark Blue platinums ( best blade ever made IMO), and nudge out the Silver Blues slightly.

These, with the silver blues, are for me the best blades i've ever tried. And also the Gillette Aço Inox.

Where can i purchase them?

I tried a pack once and they were OK. Definitely NOT the same as the Blues.

I just finished my 3rd shave with mine. All have been very smooth, close, and nick & burn free. I will post more after shave #4 tomorrow.

So far, so good. A top tier blade IMHO.

I still have no comparison with the Silver Blues. I read one comparison somewhere which, in the opinion of the reviewer, placed the platinums in a just slightly better category of shave (smoother) but, as ever YMMV. When I receive mine I'll write up a comparison. I wasn't all that impressed with the Silver Blues: good, but not as good as the old Dark Blue 7 O'Clock Gillette Platinums. I am hoping that the Gillette Platinums I have on order as as good as the 7 O'Clocks. We'll see.

I just finished my 4th shave using the Gillette Platinum in my Gillette Slim. The Slim was set on “6”. All four shaves were very good: close, nick & burn free. It is a very smooth shaving top tier blade. I doubt that I will be buying any for regular use however. First, they are fairly difficult to find, only being available currently from Romania or Israeli. They are also going up in price at an alarming rate. When I ordered my 2 5-packs a couple of weeks ago you could get 100 for $19.00. They have gone up several times since and are now at $28 per hundred.

I am currently using the Gillette Platinum from the Rumanian supplier from who I purchased 50.

I think they're a great blade and definitely a better blade than the Silver Blue. I am using the Platinum in a Gillette Old Type (1909) and it's giving me a wonderfully sharp, smooth, close shave. A definite favourite.

I find it difficult to tell the difference between it and the 7 O'Clock Super Platinums that I fortunately have a stash of. I wonder if they are not, in fact, the same blade? Sure feel the same, and that's what's important.

Wingdo, if you're reading this, you might want to try them out. I remember you thought the 7 O'Clocks were a dream blade.

These blades are getting a bit pricey, but if you see some I recommend you get some.
