Ok so here is the skinny on what I have done. Recently I purchased a fat handle "El Gordo" Matador razor, upon receiving it I loaded an ASTRA superior Platinum in it and went to town WOW! Aggressive and it gave me a few nicks and weepers, I set it aside and went on with my usual rotation of Merkurs for a couple of weeks then it came back in the rotation. Same results same blade, rough, nicks, and weepers Sad. On to the present I have been looking for an alternative for it and the Muhle R89 "jet" caught my eye, so I searched in vain of course that ship had sailed. on to the meat of this...I decided to give "el gordo" a new set of cloths and see what happened..
process:Aluminum Oxide blasted the razor after disassembly.
degreased the pieces with Chemtool degreaser (no residue)
mixed my Duracoat 12 to 1.
airbrushed the razor in three coats. 20min flash time in between.
Baked the razor at 150°F for an hour and a half. let cool inspect. I present to you "El Gordo en Ropa Negra"

end results the shave improved tremendously tactile feedback totally changed on the side of improvement, audible feedback from the razor increased and it sounds fabulous! The shave itself was only 2 pass using the original ASTRA, WTG and ATG BBS!!! no weepers no nicks no blood!
conclusion for my part I am completely pleased! and it looks sexy!!
any and all comments are welcomed![/b]

You did a fantastic job. Congratulations. The razor looks exactly like the Maggard MR3 less the coating. I assume the bottom of the handle unscrews and weight can be increased.
