Ok so I decided to make a Shave stick out of some VDH cause I was bored and had three pucks of it layin around. so here we go.
1. get the things you need
A. suitable soap (glycerin)
B. something to cut it on.
D. container to melt it in (microwave safe)
E. used deodorant container or a new one from someplace
(I chose to use an OS Wolfthorn deodorant container
you will see why in the pix it was perfect)
F. distilled water, and fragrance of your choice.
2. Proceedure
A. cut your soap into 1cm blocks I used 1 1/2 pucks.

B. put in microwave safe bowl nuke it for 12 seconds,
do this 2 times stir the soap it should be liquid by
now.

C. now that the soap is liquid you can add any
scent you like in the strength you like
DISCLAIMER: use uncommon sense here too much
can rash you up!
D. prepare your stick container wash it out etc..
look at the pix you can see why I chose the OS
container it has a "plug" in the bottom knob.[Image: 20131227_171639_zps52sdciwp.jpg]
F. I disassembled the container and cleaned it,
then reassembled it leaving the plug out.
G. I replaced the cover that goes over the
deodorant and under the cap after I cranked
the inside base all the way back in. I then
put the cap (red thing) back on over the
cover.

H. the next photo shows the orifice where the soap
is poured into. if you look close you can see the
interior base plate. pour your soap here, fill the container
till the soap is visible covering this (baseplate)

I. recap/plug the hole put it in fridge let it set up.
see the pic.

J. see end results, two different types both VDH scented
to my taste. Bay Rum small black one, OS Wolfthorn
large silver one.

Very nice. How did you manage to remove the bottom plug, though?

I do it without melting. Just grate it on a fine cheese grater, and pack it in.

Very simple with a thin flat screwdriver or a butter knife it pops right out!

Great idea. A travel sized deodorant canister would be great for, well, a travel sized shave stick!

I've gotten some fine glycerin shave sticks from Em's place - they're in elliptical shaped screw-tainers too. I definitely will save the container from my next screw-up deodorant when it's gone - run it through the dishwasher. Then maybe pack some fine, soft shaving soap inside. Arko stick is pretty pliable, as are many others (Valobra, Stirling, Mystic Waters). This seems like a good idea. I believe that a little experimentation is called for.
