That sounds like a strange pronouncement, but it's true. Smile

When I run, I pretty much always have music playing through my headphones......and it's almost always Steely Dan. I have all their albums as a group, and also all Becker and Fagen's solo albums. I usually throw on a mix of their stuff with some jazz thrown in, and then I run. The tempos of their songs goes well with my pace, and the lyrics and music are interesting.

-----------------

Of course, now the two activities are inextricably tied together. When I listen to Steely Dan and I'm just at home, I want to run. Biggrin

The same sort of association has happened in the past. When I was teenager, and was reading "The Lord of the Rings" for the first time, I had just obtained a Gordon Lightfoot tape (Gord's Gold), and had it playing all the time when I was reading the book. Now, when I re-read the book, I want to have that CD playing, and when I put on Gordon Lightfoot, I want to read that book.

-----------------

This is probably pretty common. Do you guys have any such associations?

Man, I love me some Steely Dan. It's definitely not my wife's favorite, so it's my guilty pleasure. And yes, it's nice to zone out and run/ride/skate for miles on end as Fagen waxes poetic about about being out of touch with the youth (Hey Nineteen) and other complex social issues, all brought together by the best studio sound ever laid down on vinyl.

You've got good taste.

I wish Steely Dan encouraged me to do such productive things. :-D I'm a big fan, too.

So what's your favorite Steely Dan? I had a couple of their albums long ago - Aja & Goucho - but haven't stayed up with them.

I like both of those and would also rank on top The Royal Scam and Katie Lied. I haven't really listened to the last couple of SD or Fagan albums, but The Nightfly is one of my all-time favorites.

I used to fantasize that anyone riding in my car would have to know Kid Charlemagne. Also, your favorite song on Aja is a litmus test for me. :-P

Their newer albums are also excellent. Here's a song from 'Two against nature'. It is called 'Jack of Speed'. Lovely production, as usual, and excellent all round.

No Pretzel Logic fans? Of course, Katy Lied is a classic as well. I love them all.
