Does it have to be badger? I'd be looking to either up the budget, try the BST, or go for a boar and/or synthetic.

In which case I'd personally up the budget a bit and go for the Semogue Owners Club in two-band.

Yeah, I agree on this, or the HD version of the 830.

Both the SOC two band and the Berkeley are great brushes for face lathering. I think the loft is a little taller on the SOC so that may factor into your decision.

+1, assuming Doug meant the 730 and not the 830.

You can't go wrong with either the SOC 2-Band or the 730HD, however the SOC is more an all-around brush than specifically a face latherer's brush. The handle of the SOC is 13mm longer than the 730HD, the knot has an extra 2mm, however the loft is the same.

I would also consider the Barbear Clássico LE Badger brush, the handle is pretty small (50mm), the 2-Band hair is the same as the SOC, it has a smaller loft which translates into more backbone, it won't be available for much longer (the boar and mistura have already sold out) and, well, it is cheaper! Biggrin

Cheers.

Wow lots of help and recommendations here, thank you all.

The SOC is indeed a really nice brush but to tell you the truth I am leaning more towards the Berkeley. The overall image plus the Simpsons name seems more appealing to me.

Would not be my choice considering the price point, but I do (seriously) get the appeal of Simpsons brushes.
