Got this NOS boar and it almost seems too nice - dare I use it? The sticker indicates "West Germany" which would date it what, 1945 - 1990 or so?

What would you do?

USE, this is the aspect I enjoy most about my shaving hobby - the tools are beautiful and functional.

I have the same dilemma with my vintage fountain pens and it is the subject of much discussion in the fountain pen collecting community. The way I look at is is that I buy vintage fountain pens and shaving gear for my personal enjoyment, which can't be complete unless I use the item concerned. Hence, I'd use the brush unless such use would destroy significant value as a collector's item. For me, it is only through using such an object that I can fully appreciate it. Nice looking brush BTW.

According to Wikipedia; the Federal Republic of Germany was created in May '49 and West Germany was the common name in English until the reunification of Germany in October '90.

I say use it - it's too nice to not use Wink

I'm not sure there would be much financial depreciation by using it, but if you are looking for a brush to have on display and prefer the looks of a NOS brush then that would fit the bill very nicely.

Use it, at least once. Lather up some of that Captain's Bay Rum soap. Smile
