What is your favorite obscure cream or soap? I just got some herbs and roses of Bulgaria, nuka, and figaro creams, and info on them?

Those must be "obscure" here in USA (and not even , thanks to shave a buck) , but in Eastern Europe are quiet popular , for what I understand.

Figaro is from Hungary , while the other two are from Bulgaria.

My fav "obscure" cream is Acqua di Parma.Oh wait , its not that obscure after all , unless Im talking about the scented one which is not longer made ... FacepalmFacepalm

Yeah I was looking for things that weren't very mainstream in the sotd's. I had never heard of them til I went on shaveabuck.

Well there is Tiki Bar shave soap. But it won't be obscure for long once it is officially released. Amazing performance and great price. Scents yet to be fully experienced but the ones I have tried have been quite nice, not super amazing, but definitely enjoyable. It will be offered in vegan & tallow formulas. Just keep an eye out for the release and search around to find some initial thoughts on it.

Tiki is the only soap I'm using now alongside MdC.

The closest I've come to an obscure soap or cream is probably Spencer & Devon. It doesn't seem to get the love it deserves, in my opinion.

Have you tried both formulas? If so which do you prefer?

I have not tried both formulas. I don't do well with soaps loaded with moisturizers (thanks super oily complexion) and the Tiki tallow will be for those that like Mike's & Mystic Water. I know a diehard Mikes fan that now ranks Tiki tallow higher, though I don't think he is forsaking his beloved Mikes.

The vegan formula lathers creamier than many other tallow soaps. So while I prefer the vegan formula (made after the same ingredients as MdC mind you) the tallow is where it is at for those that love their soaps buttery.

Thanks. Sounds like the tallow might be for me, but I will probably try both once they are available. Have heard nothing but great things.

I love an Israeli one called simply "Shaving Cream" it has a mild menthol feeling, amazing smell and lather capabilities. It's amazingly cheap, around NIS 10, roughly 3 USD. It's made by Henkel.

I dare to say it's even better than MEM Olive.

Savon du Midi, almost nobody talks about it even though Royal Shave carries it.

Another one I thought of is Fiori and Frutta (aka Dovo) cream. It's loaded with moisturizers so I don't use it often but it lathers very well and I think that a tub will last a good long time. I bought mine from Connaught Shaving and it is listed under shave creams and the name Dovo.

I would love to try this as I love Mem Olive....how do I find some of it in the States? Do you know of an online vendor or eBay vendor in Israel that ships to the states?

Thanks,

Jason

Jason,

I don't know if it's sold outside of Israel, but I can help you with that.

I could be wrong here, but I believe the soaps are the same as the RR Karite range of soaps. I have lavender scent from both and they seem exactly the same.

My more obscure products so far would have to be a couple of "portuguese" shaving creams, that I assume are just rebranded versions of other creams.

Rio Sul

Variante XI

They are, however, good performers, I do not regret having tried them (they belong to a good friend).

Cheers.

RR Karite 888:
Ingredients:
Stearic Acid, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Water, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Wax, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Oil, Prunus Amygdalus (Sweet Almond) Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Oil, Lanolin, Sodium Carbonate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Titanium Dioxide, Propolis Extract, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Lecithin, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, Citric Acid, Limonene, Citral, Hexyl Cinnamal.

Dovo:
Ingredients:
potassium hydroxide, stearic acid, coconut oil, shea butter, water, sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, sunflower wax, castor oil, peppermint oil, flaxseed oil, aroma, sodium carbonate, titanium dioxide, rice starch, citric acid, lecithin, ascorbyl palmitate (vitamin c), tocopherol (vitamin e), hydrogenated lanolin, propolis cera (beeswax?), glycerin

I haven't heard that before but looking at the list they are pretty similar. I tried the King Louis and hated it as it only smelled like play-doh. I don't get that from the Fiori & Frutta, but then again this is a mint scent vs the lavender of King Louis.

I read somewhere that RR Karite soaps were made by the same source as Acca Kappa. I don't know if that means they are rebranded soaps of the same kind, or if they are just made by the same people.
