That's right, I broke out an old school "Holy Moly" from when I was like 5 years old --- I had read some occasional comments on TIKI shave soaps, saw a few random pics in different folks SOTD threads and then someone did it, not sure who, but someone said that it was as good as MdC --- I am a sucker for this comparison, anytime someone says this, I mindlessly go to the internet, search out said "as good as MdC" shaving soap and then I purchase it.

Well....I did not depart from my normal routine on this particular shaving soap either --- I reached out to Amanda (the owner and a PhD in Chemistry as well) and inquired on her soaps...she informed me that she has a tallow and vegan formula and that her vegan was modeled after MdC's simpllistic ingredients list. We exchanged about 10 emails, I paypaled her the funds and the wait began....well the wait only lasted from last Friday until today. My tub (4oz) of Tiki Soap "Set Sail" which is a lovely blend of scents arrived today, along with my MdC Fougere (it's late, did I spell that right? Huh) and I thought to myself, well, head to head comparison never hurt.

So I did the familiar 10 second swirl with my Rooney Emillion 2 Two Band on the MdC and got gobs of thick, yogurty lather....yeah, expected, I know -- it still blows me away that I can make a 10 second load on MdC and get that kind of lather --- well, on to the Tiki.

I took the Tiki soap, gave it 10 seconds and BOOM, clouds of thick, yogurty lather as well...easily enough for 3 passes .... I could not believe it. I have tried the short load time with QCS, HTGAM, PPF, Tabac, Jabonman, Calani, Vintage Williams, 3P, ABCBA, Boellis Panama, Vintage Pens, Modern Pens, Floris (good formula), Tallow Trumpers, etc ... you get the point and no other soap, except for my Jabonman has given me this much lather with a short loading time.

Honestly guys, Amanda is great to work with, is very knowledgeable about soap making, ingredients and their sourcing, etc.... and she makes custom scents too ( for a small fee).... she is making me a tub of Creed Vetiver type and a tub of GIT Type that will be ready in about two weeks. I can't wait.

I will say this....her soap is good enough, and produced an amazing shave..... by the way (forgot to mention that Confused) that I could shave with only TIKI for 2014 and not feel like I was missing anything. I have never been this impressed with a soap on first use. I kept re-lathering to make sure it is not a fluke --- real deal here gents.

I will post some lather pics in a bit.

Best,

Jason

The soaps will be listed on her site soon. They just recently reached the finalized formula and scent profiles. I just placed my second order with her via private message on Facebook for some of the new scents and she said they would ship out next week. I suspect they will go live on her website sometime between now and then too.

As was written here and in my first impressions thread, this vegan soap is modeled after MdC. It still feels different than MdC to me so don't expect and exact clone. To me the Tiki lather is creamier & wetter. So if you feel like MdC dries you out then you may even like Tiki better.

Edit for website: http://www.tikibarsoap.com ; also search Tiki Bar Soap on Facebook.

Totally agree on creamier and a touch wetter....moisturizing like very few soaps I have experienced. The "Set Sail" scent is very, very nice!

The Creed Vetiver and GIT type scents are custom order possibilities if you contact Amanda directly via Facebook.

Cost is $10 per puck refill. $14 per puck + tin.

She is doing a buy 5 get the 6th for free deal too.

Jason,
Can you tell me more about the new tin and label? I'm hoping the label is waterproof. My first Tiki puck came in a plastic screw top tub. This one looks to be more of a tin with either a press down or screw down lid.

What is the consistency of the Tiki Soap? Is the puck soft enough to press into a bowl or container?

Absolutely is. It is no where near as hard as MdC, but I'd say it is firmer than some soft soaps.

Jason & Brian, this soap sounds really interesting.

Any ingredients on her tallow-based soap?

The ingredients are potassium cocoate, sodium cocoate, potassium tallowate, sodium tallowate, potassium kokum butterate, sodium kokum butterate, potassium castorate, sodium castorate, vegetable glycerin, lanolin alcohol, fragrance.

I think that is it but not 100% that is the final formula as I had to dig that out from a message awhile ago, but it should give you a good idea.
