When I first got my 2013 R41, I liked it. The shaves were close, comfortable, and really easy.

However, like any razor, there was some improvement to be had over the first few uses - mostly because it takes time to match the razor to a blade. This combination differs for different people, of course. The only way to figure this out is to try different razor/blade combinations, and I did.....extensively.

In my case, the 2013 R41 is amazing when paired with a Turkish Permasharp. The shaves are so smooth!

I'm not going to state that this is the best razor for me, but it it among my top DE razors now.

Yes, I like it too. When I first used it I thought, well, what's the point of acquiring any more razors? Using any other? Famous last words. What I will say, though, is that I can't use it continuously...skin does need a break sometimes, and so I resort to using a milder razor for a while. Having said that, I always give myself a 2.5 pass shave either way, R14 or not. What I mean is that some folk need less passes with the R14 and so therefore find it LESS abrasive on the skin. Just under the chin at the front is my tender spot.

I find a firmer blade works best for me. Polsilver Browns are for me the best in the R14. I must try a Gillette Platinum...

Wow, Yohann! I had thought you didn't like the R41 as you said it was a very uncomfortable shaver compared to the Barbasol, or were you referring to the 2011 version? Biggrin

Yes, I never liked the 2011 R41. I was able to get good shaves from it, but I don't think that a razor should have such fine tolerances that a tiny slip in technique could result in an uncomfortable shave.

The 2013 R41 is different.....even though Muehle says it's not.

Hello Yohann,

I have seen the two different versions available to North America and side by side, they are clearly different. The caps are different in both width, meaning the coverage of the blade, as well as length on the cap. The 2011 cap allows the tabs on the blades to be felt and the 2013 only leaves a little bit of tab from what I remember.

I have ironically been wanting another 2011 version just as a backup which is silly but I have also though about getting a 2013 to see how it is. There is obviously some who have used that prefer the old, and some who think they are the same shave quality wise. Then like you, some folks really like the 2013 and think it is the clear choice. Shy

I am careful with the 2011 Grande I have, but luckily I have very little problems when I use it. I plan to keep it as long as possible. I find the Fatip to be more aggressive as well as the Merkur Futur. Confused

Glad you found the one you work well with. Which finish/handle did you get Yohann?

Cheers!
