Hello Sirs,

I just bought a Fatip open comb? What do you think about this DE? Many people said that's very aggressive... but I interested in uses a open comb razor.

Regards

aggressive? Sure... but not overly aggressive.

Compared to a Ej89, it has some bite but it is very tame next to the 2011 R41.
They can give an excellent shave.

I love my Fatip. I don't think it's aggressive at all. A very smooth and efficient razor. By looking at it with a blade loaded in it, you'd think it would rip your face off, but not so (for me anyway).

Congratulations on obtaining this wonderful razor. They are becoming very rare because they are no longer being produced. I agree they are aggressive but not extreme. Use it well.

It is a great razor. I am saving up to buy a Joris, which has the same head as your Fatip. Great efficient razor, but I found it also quite forgiving.

Enjoy!

Great thread; I've become intrigued with these. May have to pull the trigger at some point.

Jerry, do you know for sure that these are being discontinued, or is it a rumor? They've been hard to get stateside for a while, but are apparently still readily available in Europe.

Ordered mine (Nickel Grande) last Wednesday from a seller on Ebay UK that has the Nickel, Chrome, and Gold. Arrived yesterday, and used it this morning. Must say, it is wonderful! BBS in 2 passes and touch ups.

I've got a funny feeling that my Gillette New OCs (long and short) will be for sale shortly. Will probably thin the herd down to Fatip, EJ DE89 Barley, and fatboy (slim is already off to a new home).

Highly recommend the Fatip. For me, perfect blend of aggressiveness and smoothness.

Very nice razor that can be aggressive if you are new to DE shaving.

Good shaver. A pussy cat with a little growl to it. Really.

It's a shame no one was buying them before the company threw in the towel.

My FaTip is teamed with an Ikon Bulldog handle. With this configuration it can hold it's own aesthetically when next to my Joris.

I thought Fatip was not making any more of these razors but I found a vendor on eBay who is selling four different models including a beautiful gold Fatip.

The vendor is maguires.barbershop

Maguires is great to deal with. I bought the new Proraso Red from him before it was available here. It somehow got punctured in the mail. He not only sent me another tube of Proraso, but a free Proraso Green and Samples.

I always thought they were discontinued because nobody seem to stock them any longer but, it appears there is an online vendor (eBay) selling four different models of the Fatip. So to be honest I don't know whats going on anymore. They are a very good shaver slightly on the aggressive side but nothing like the R41 2011 Muhle.

Glad to see the Fa Tip is getting some love here.

I got mine in a group buy a few months back and really enjoy it. I only use it as my first pass razor for massive reduction. I find it does great as a reducer, but for some reason I still haven't managed to get control of it for my WTG and ATG passes (I fall back to my milder Gillette Flair Tip for that).

The Fa Tip isn't the best looking razor in my collection but, it gets the most use.

I really like my Fatip. It is stationed at my other home and I shaved with it this morning before returning to Atlanta. I have a Joris 1312 and the 2011 Muhle R41 as well. The Fatip is very good and requires a deft hand for best results, at least with me. It could hurt you if you haven't developed the technique, but it is a 2 pass and touch-up razor for me. It is a justifiable purchase if you are considering a Joris. The Fatip shaves like the Joris to me, but the Joris is an absolute beauty by comparison. The head and cap are more refined. The Fatip is but a shadow to the 2011 R41. If you can be completely satisfied with a Fatip, you may be ready for a 2011 R41, maybe!Cool

Thanks to Jerry on my decision to purchase a Fatip some time ago!

I was tempted by the Gold, but I knew I would end up replacing the handle (nice head, pretty average handles IMO) so I went with the Piccolo (this will be my second FaTip!)

+ 1, the FaTip provides a comparable shave to the Joris, but is certainly lacking aesthetically.

Both the Fatip and Joris are effective razors, but tame compared to the 2011 R41!
