I have owned and tried (and sold) so many brushes by now that I rarely get surprised... But this time it was much better than I expected or recalled...

Some time ago I owned a Vie Long Silvertip, the 16510 with this gorgeous red-brown-white swirl handle and a 24mm knot. The hair was silky soft when dry, but not quite that soft when wet --- and a loft of 57mm was making it just too floppy - and so I sold it.

I also owned the BG Beehive LE in butterscotch. That was a very nice knot with dense hair and quite soft - but not as soft as a Thaeter or shavemac silvertip and so I ended up selling that as well.

Reports of the "super softness" of the Vie Long hair I did not give much attention as my experience was that of soft but not very soft tips, i.e. not soft enough to compete with Thaeter/shavemacs I own.

But that red-swirl handle kept calling me and since in the meantime the brush was offered with a shorter - 50mm - loft. I thought I give it another try.

And what a positive surprise: this knot has super soft tips, clearly as soft as my Thaeter and shavemac 3 bands.. and a gorgeous bulbous knot with true silver hair. The 50mm loft is just right and makes this brush work equally well with soaps and creams. A definite keeper this time!

Sometimes you have to try again! Below the shorter lofted brush.

Nice! I had a Vie-Long Silvertip as one of my first brushes, - I also thought it was excellent, but the loft was a bit high.

I've been eyeing these, might have to pull the trigger!

I just recently sold a two band super badger vie long shaving brush. It was quite a great brush. The only thing I think that will make it even better IMO is making the knot a bit denser. Other than that it is an excellent SB. Enjoy it!

Have you tried Semogue's Selected Silvertip hair? If so, how does if compare?

I just picked up a VL 16910 and I love the handle. I used it this morning and while it's soft I got the slightest hint of scritch. How do you find the scritch on your brush? I abhor scritch; I love my 2 band badgers but I wanted something softer.

I like the 16910, time will tell if the scritch will get to me though.

I have the vie-long 16510 customized with a 48 mm loft and it´s my favourite brush without a doubt. Super soft, it has the perfect proportion for a good stiffness, and that´s why it´s great for creams and hard soaps.

I guess this is hit and miss depending on the hair batch. My previous longer lofted version had a hint of scritch. The one I just got is pillow soft, like a Thäter 3 Band.

I own that same brush, Georg.
Also went for the lower loft edition.

The JL Petree from Phil at Bullgoose is just as soft, I own both Petrees, 2-band and 3-band.

Are the handles (bicolour red/white-clear swirl) the same or are they slightly different from model to model?

Depending of the model there are slight differences. Some handles go to maroon and others go to caramel.

Mr Juan from Gifts and Care can make your knot to your specific needs
You choose the brush and tell him how many mm you want the hight.

I have one with the beautiful red & white handle. Love the handle, but the knot is a bit floppy. I will keep using it though as I can see coming around to appreciate that sometimes.
