Any others out there find just the perfect combination with different razor handles and heads?

My daily razor is an Olaf Rasmussen surgical prep razor head with a Tradere handle:

kentclark,
That is a very nice looking razor! Where did you find it and how does it shave?

I shudder to think of using a surgical prep razor on my face. What if it was used during colon surgery? Vasectomy anyone? ugggg

For the last month, I have been quite taken with a Lord Premium head paired with a Merkur 33C handle. It has given me some very smooth shaves. I also have a BRW handle paired with a Gillette NEW short toothed head that provides some very good shaves although I have not used it lately.

So, are all 2-piece/3-piece handles interchangeable with all heads? Or do different brands use different threads?

It is probably this Old Type head on a BRW Improved handle. Not only does it shave great, but I bought it as a gift to celebrate a year off cigarettes and I have had it a couple years now. Smile

Thank you, celestino. I bought the two Olaf heads and handle from a fellow wetshaver who bought them in a lot from an antique store, I believe. I hadn't heard of them before. The shave is extremely smooth and flexible. I would call it mild to moderately efficient (perhaps a 4-5 on a Gillette adjustable). The complete razor is nice and the handle has good heft and balance but the head really shines with the heavier Tradere handle.

Funny! The possibility of something harmful lurking on this stainless still is nil. I work in the medical field and appreciate the reference to it (maybe also why I like
Personna med/lab blades).

Good for you! Enjoy in good health.

That is an interesting combo with the surgical head. The Tradere handle is really great. I use it on several heads...just a great piece. I am thinking of picking a second so I don't have to switch so often.

Do you know where this razor origins from? The name
"Olaf Rasmussen" is a common Scandinavian name, probably from Norway or Demmark.

I will probably make a dedicated post about this unique razor later. To answer your question, the razor was patented in the US in April 1951 by an Olaf Rasmussen of Port Clinton, OH.

Here is a link to the patent.
