Hi Folks, as above I have had my first shave using Tabac in a bowl. I couldn't really get a handle on the scent maybe Patchouli but quite distinctive. I had a good lather nice and slick which resulted in a good shave. I will stick with it for my next few shaves.

Yea, Tabac in puck and shave stick form is one of my favourite shave soaps. The scent for some reason reminds of barbershops when I was a kid half a century ago.

I love Tabac! It never lets me down, but the scent is hard to describe.

I think it's supposed to smell like tobacco, and I think the name is supposed to be suggestive of that.

It's more like a strange baby powder that's slightly off...but I like it. Tobacco? Nah. The scent from the puck does settle after a while.

Funny how everyone's nose is different...I get a spicy lavender Biggrin

For many it seems to be a love it or hate it scent. I'm in the "I don't mind it" group...no strong opinions either way.

It was my first hard soap I ever used, and I used it for well over 7 years, with 2-3 of them being exclusive, before I discovered this as a hobby and "needed" variety. After being introduced to other soaps, I'll rate the performance of Tabac as a 7/10...it was always good, but I know for many its at the top of their list, and that just wasn't the case for me. Granted it has been at least a year since I used it last, so I should really revisit it again. Being one of the only products I ever used for that long, I think its the only one in my den I'm actually sick of Tongue.

I read another thread of funny things it smells like and now I can't get the thought of "your grandparents closet" or "the smell of a thrift store" out of my head. It's a great soap though.

Everyone's nose is different, indeed!
To me it opens up with pepper and lemon, wrapped in bergamot. Afterwards comes the tobacco, with oak moss and sandalwood also in the mix.

Whatever it actually smells like, it is a great performer, and at a very good price. I always have it in rotation.

My first impression of Tabac's scent was reminiscent of when I was in high school and left my gym socks in the locker over a long weekend. I did not give up on the soap and I still have a puck in the den that I use from time to time when I have a terrible cold and can't smell what I am using.Tongue

Tabac is one of my favorites. Gives slick, cushiony lather. Nice scent.

Seems like there are a few opinions on Tabac
Second shave today and I could detect a faint smoky aroma and also daffodils, that does seem, a bit strange but it popped into my head as I was shaving so I'm going to say it must have reminded me of something floral.

Very happy with the lather, I'm looking forward to getting a new brush mine is pretty small but it is ok for now.

Cheers.

Now... go buy some MWF and give that Tabac an equally good, if not better, friend. Biggrin Mine sit side by side in the cupboard, I think I'll always have a puck of each. I like how they are both offered in their own nice little bowls with lids too. Great soaps.

My Tabac usage was only a couple of months. Initially, I found the scent quite agreeable, but that opinion quickly changed.
Performance, however, is great.

I will let you scent guru's sort it out. I just happen to like it and the EdC. It produces very easy, nice lather.

I just used it again yesterday.

Not quite that bad but close. I have referred to the scent of Tabac as reminiscent of old gym socks on more that one occasion.Winky

I've been back on it the last two days and will definitely be adding Tabac into the rotation.

Tabac is a favorite of mine. I think a lot of people get turned off by the overpowering scent when the puck is new. If you leave the lid off after use, the scent becomes much less apparent. For the price, it's hard to beat the performance.
