Average price of the yellows v. the blacks is about 50% price difference per blade. What gives? My googling suggests that there is no difference other than packaging.

I've always assumed it's because they come in packs of five instead of ten.

Because they are like samurai blades. One thousand layers of folded steel.

This. Wine costs more per ounce in half bottles than full and I think blades are much the same.

Yeah if you think about it, the blacks have 50% more packaging.

They're the same price on amazon (26.50/100, free shipping). Confused

This same discussion came up on another forum very recently, and apparently the 10 packs are the older packaging and seem to be on the way out in most markets. Black - Asian markets; Yellow - European and North American markets; Blue - South American markets. Concensus opinion is that they're all the same blade, just the packaging is different.

I ordered two packs of Feather Yellows in my Italian Barber order that arrived yesterday. Both were packs of ten. I just checked Bullgoose Shaving, Lee's Saftey Razors, West Coast Shaving, and Royal Shave. Every one of those vendors sells Feather Blades in yellow packs of ten. It seems that the 5 pack yellow is not the norm in the US at least.

Celestino, where do you purchase your five pack yellows from?

Well, I should apologize as I was thinking of the Gillette Yellows for some odd reason, but I have seen Feather Yellows in packs of five also. Blush

I have not used Feathers in over 2 years, so I don't know where to purchase the packs in five from.

Gentlemen,
From my what I understand, the black and the yellow are the same blade in different packing and that the black is a five count. On the other hand, recently I ordered 100 Feathers on Amazon and they came in packs of five yellows. As if life weren't confused enough.

From ebay, back in 2009 or so. But they are the very same blades that came in the black packets and in the yellow 10-packs.

Aaron,
I ordered them from one of the many Amazon sites, because they were relatively inexpensive, and the package was shipped from Indonesia.

Ok, so they are older blades. I have some yellow 5 packs that I bought on the BST and they seem particularly sharp, but it could just be in my head.

Does the term 'Feather Blacks' refer to the packaging only?
I assumed it did since the Feather's I've used in the past were stainless with a logo painted on them...

Then I received some blades in trade that are actually black.

Sure, I'll snap one and post it.
I put this razor in the other day and didn't think too much about it. It pulled pretty bad so I swapped it out after one stroke on my cheek. I'd seen a ton of posts on counterfeit blades but didn't pay too much attention... Now I'm starting to wonder Dodgy

These came in a 10 pack and they all look like this.
I'll give them another shot but if the 2nd blade is like the first I'll toss them and grab the normal silver ones I've been using.
