Most of us try many blades, but usually settle on a few brands that we stock up on. I'm curious about which blades people choose to keep in stock, and why.

Let us know.

-------------

I'll start out, I keep three blades in stock.

1) Feather - I like the sharpness of the Feathers. They work in most of my razors, and they last three shaves. Can't ask for more.

2) Red IP's - These are the blades I go to when I want a smooth shave. They're also usually the first blade I'll try in a new razor.

3) Turkish Permasharps - These are a sort of in-betweenie blade - sharper than the IPs and smoother than the Feathers.

By far my largest stash is Wilkinson Light Brigades. For me there is no other blade as sharp and smooth.

* Super Iridiums
* vintage Wilkinson Swords

I do have a few Perma Sharp Supers that I like very much, but not as much compared to the two above.

Polsilver because I have a source of them and they're really really good.

Med Preps because I was in the right place at the right time and again, they're good.

Gillette 7 O'clock Yellows because they were the first really fantastic blade I hit on (blade #2 in my testing chronologically) and they made an impression. Even today I think they're a fantastic blade. I sought these blades out rather than waiting for them to come to me.

SuperMax Super Plat's, another good blade that made the cut. I liked them and someone was selling a bunch of them. He did me a favor, I did him a favor, we both were happy.

In SE, the GEM SS ptfe blades simply because they are so fantastic and I will never want to be without them.

There are other blades that I like and made the cut in testing, but for one reason or another I just didn't stock up. They weren't in the right place at the right time pretty much. That's the good thing about testing so many blades... one has options.

I tried a few but now only keep Feathers in stock.

The closest second was Black 7'o'clock for me - but Feather was better. It's now the only blade I use.

I settled on two...
Polsilver Super Iridium
Gillette Silver Blue
Work well in my two main razors, Weber PH & EJ DE89. I really like both blades in both razors.

Perma=sharp Super is good but not the same league.

Interesting, I still have not tried Feathers.

Polsilver SI's: My "Go To" blade...sharp and smooth, work well in all my razors, bought a large batch/reasonable price. Only downside is the wax/glue that sometimes covers the actual cutting edge; it's a pain to clean off and having to wipe the blade with q-tips and alcohol isn't the best for a blades edge, albeit better than leaving it covered in wax.

Personna "Med Prep": Very similar in performance to the Polsilver SI's, being both sharp and smooth...upside is I've found them to be consistent blades that also lack the wax/glue that's found on the Polsilver's, so I get to skip the process of cleaning wax/glue from the blade...downside is price$$$.

Kai DE Blades: Very Very sharp and still more smooth on my face than the often compared Feather blades...again Kai's don't have any wax/glue residue and are quite consistent pack to pack...downside is price and availability.

Many other top contender's that I have small stock piles of are Gillette Silv.Blues, Super Plat. Blacks & Gil. Yellow, Personna Red, Lord Plat. Class and last but not least Feather blades.

Both the Personna Labs and Red Packs have become my main blades and are the only ones I currently have in bulk. The Med Preps were great too but I didn't find much difference between those and the Labs.
I've really liked all the different Supermax blades I've ever tried. The Super Platinum were probably my favorite & I plan to get a box or two of those at some point. Also I thought the Gillette Super Thins were good enough to buy in bulk.

I used to love Astra Green box, Shark Super Chrome but now I can't stand them anymore.

Any of these could be #1 on any given day. Also depends on what razor I'm using.

1. Med Prep for closest shave.
2. Original Iridium Super for smoothest & very close.
3. Vintage Gillette Platinum Plus is uniquely close & smooth.
4. Gillette 7 o'clock Super Platinum (blue) is very smooth & close.
