I know at one point the maker was going through the stuff as generations trying to nail the soap in. Does anyone know the generation he finally settled on. I have some gen 5 clove I received as a gift from him but never got to use it. I also remember him saying some of his early stuff was just glorified bath soap. So before I try lathering this and failing terribly I'm wondering if the gen 5 he made was the final he settled with.

I think he would appreciate it if you did try and gave him feedback. I know I would. He seems like the type that would as well.

Gen 5 is his current generation. It's a great product. I help test his soaps before they hit the market. He's always up for receiving feedback from his customers as well.

I think he's actually reformulated at least twice since Gen 5. He introduced the Smooth line last March, and then late last year moved to an easier lathering formula (Bonaparte was the first scent in that one).

I just emailed Rod. We'll get an answer from the man himself.

I have one of his Gen 1 soaps, and although it smells great, it is a BEAR to lather.

I give Rod major props for being so responsive to his customers, some vendors take the position that it's the regiment that is out of step, not them...

Here's a response from Rod. You all are right!

Rod:
Technically we are on Gen 7.2. The Gen 5 soaps were pre-lanolin. The Gen 6 is also was the start of everything containing lanolin, and the 7 was the update to make the soap easier to lather. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you are enjoying the soaps!

good stuff, great shaves- to be honest if i did not have other good soaps to use i would only be using stirling, i enjoy the essentials and the smoothness and texture of the lather
