Another beauty from the Sears household!  This brush will be my only one in use this week as I have packed up most of the den for a light remodel.  The handle and knot are both fantastic on this brush, even if it doesn't match the historical size and shape of the Alibaba, Brad's version is no slouch!  I do have some more vintage brushes on the way that I will be sharing probably next week.  Until then, happy shaves!

I am in full reduction mode, but somehow this brush caught my eye.  An original Rooney Alibaba doesn't present itself very often and even though it has a little character flaw (chipped base) the knot is pure magic!  The knot has some discoloration that appears to be the early onset of butterscotch patina, but it appears the brush was stored next to a window as it is more apparent on one side more than the other.

ok, now i know we are soul brothers  When i ordered my alibaba jade brad sears i mistakenly ordered two.  i cancelled the second one and I wonder if yours is that.  One of the prettiest brushes I own.  only have 3 shaves on it but it performs great.  Also the brooks brothers are unique and the benwell is especially gorgeous.  Well done David of the south vancouver clan

Alibabas - I truly enjoy them as well. The design/shape of the heritage Rooney Alibaba (below in both Heritage 3 Band and 2 Band) is just beautiful. I have the modern version from Lee/Brad on order and looking forward to try it.

I got one of Brad's Size 3 Alibaba handles from a BST awhile back that I need to decide what knot to put in it. Just found out about his no longer selling handles only, so that makes this extra special to have the decision. I have a feeling I might just send it back to Brad, though. Lovely additions blzrfn!

I've done fairly well in holding off purchasing new brushes, however this brush that I ordered a while ago finally came in a little while ago.  The Blonde Badger knot has a very strong backbone and started off rather scritchy.  Fortunately after a few uses the tips are softer (scrubby) but the firm backbone remains.  Another fine collaboration brush.

Even though I just sent off a beautiful Hoffritz 103 (Chubby 3) to Australia after deciding it was larger than I prefer I still couldn't pass up this new, unused Chubby 3 in the tube presentation.  This is my first Simpson with this style packaging and hopefully not my last.  The lathe work on this handle is remarkable with the base of the brush giving the only indication that this was indeed completely handmade.  The knot also has the historic collared knot where the outside hairs are set deeper than the rest of the knot giving it a unique look.  While I'm sure the knot makers had this technique mastered and made it look easy, it certainly added an extra degree of difficulty.

Isn't it funny how you try and thin the herd, and then another brush presents itself? Happens to me too. Lol Beautiful brush, Dave!

Great score Dave.  That Chubby 3 has a lovely shade of butterscotch.

I have been drooling over many of your recent sold photos and updates in this thread. Biggrin Even though I haven't had the chance to try as many vintage brushes as you have, I am thankful that you share your excitement and enthusiasm for these gems. I love the color of the badger hair in these older brushes. It seems like so many of the colors we see in brushes these days are more black and white where as many of the older brushes have a range of color in the knots. Shoot me a PM if you ever plan to sell any vintage brushes.
