The joke is on me! Cool

My bad. V-4 is also a 1950 date code. V-3 and V-4 were the first. I saw the code and just jumped on it. After some research I realized it was a '75 Super Speed. I wish that was my Birth Year!

It's a nice thing to be able to find these special razors. After I got mine I went on to find my fathers birth year.

Just to help you out here, there are NO 1950 V1 or V2 stamped gillettes out there. The alphanumeric coding came back with V3 in 1950.

So, not your birth year after all. That's a disappointment.

I have a bunch of old Gillettes already, so I never actually sought out a birth year razor. Mine would be W 4 (1951).

Regardless, it still is a fine razor, Bob, and enjoy it! Smile

I want a birth year razor too. So far the closest I've come is a vintage Bowie knife and a buckskin strop. I am still looking.

The black handle Super Speed and Super Adjustable were made through the 80s. An '81 is on my list.

Bob, your new razor sure is pretty, even if it's not a BYR. Enjoy it and shave in good health!

I'm always on the hunt for good condition (and hopefully inexpensive) birth year items. In general, I won't buy an old razor unless it's in tip-top shape, so for the moment I've only an E1 Tech (I've been able to show restraint with razors). As for my other hobby, I've got a '59 Martin guitar, also in very good to excellent condition. It was a gift from my Dad shortly before he passed. Both pieces, razor and guitar, are excellent examples of their respective genres.
