I'm really interested in this as well. I have heard great things about Thater but really only have experience with the Simpson brand. Can't wait to hear what people have to say!

I'll speak about two bands.

I've had three Thater two band brushes. I currently have four Simpsons two band brushes. I enjoy the stronger backbone and ever-so-slight scritch of the Simpsons.

Each of the Thaters, though supremely soft, lacked the level of backbone I prefer.

It has been awhile since using a Thater 2-band, but they were very nice brushes and as Max has stated, they were a bit too soft/didn't have the desired backbone for me. If you want very soft tips with good backbone, these are worth considering. I love those octogonal handles!

I have one Thater 2 Band its very soft, not overly dense, pretty springy on the backbone. I enjoy using it it loads soap fine with great flow through. The Duke 3 in best has more backbone and is denser.

Honestly, I think Thater's are some of the best brushes on the planet.

I currently own the 4125/2 in both 2 and 3-band bulbs and they're fantastic. They are slightly higher lofted than your typical Simpson and therefore do not have as strong of backbone. However, it doesn't get any softer. Their knots are impeccably shaped, very high quality, ergonomic and very competitively priced. Both bands of hair have hooked tips. Flow through is great as well. If you want a change of pace, or a brush that has absolutely zero scritch and pure luxury, buy a Thater.

If you want to try a Thater, I recommend starting with the 4125/2 Bulb 2-Band for added backbone. They are fantastic Biggrin. I just let my friend borrow it and before returning it to me placed an order for one immediately after trying it.

I have limited experience but have the Thater 4125/2 two band and echo every thing said about it above. However, no idea how it compares to other two bands. The flow through is amazing and an angels kiss to the touch. Haven't lost a single hair.

Because of this experience I'm looking forward to gettting a three band in the future. They seem to be an incredible value.

The three bands are such a treat to use. Mine will not be leaving my hands anytime soon Wink. It is the softest badger hair I've ever felt.

I've tried tracking down a 49125 plexi-handled 2-band bulb (with 24- or 26mm knot), but neither American vendor has it in stock and can't/won't special order. Overseas, assuming they would even ship, the price mark-up is stratospheric. I don't know what it will take to entice the factory/vendors to offer this brush here. I suppose I could compromise a bit and go for the cream or black handled 4125, but why? Plexi rules. Very frustrating.

I have a 4292 in 3-band and it's a gorgeous brush. I lather on my face only and this brush feels soft and luxurious. It doesn't have a great deal of backbone or scritch, but I think backbone and scritch are grossly over-rated. Moreover, I don't feel as though I'm fighting the knot when I lather, as I do with most of my high density and short lofted knots.

Big Thater fan here, I have the 4125/2 2 band bulb, and the 4125/4 2 band bulb (the 30 mike mike is an absolute beast, love it). I mostly palm lather, and both are lather machines but then so is my Duke 3. I'm not huge into brushes, as long as they create lather, I'm happy.

You're missing out on a great brand. Yes plexiglass is cool but I wouldn't avoid Thaters because you can't find exactly what you're looking for. Their black or off-white color handles are spectacular - very egonomic, easy on the eyes and of high quality.

Put it this way: Would you refuse to buy a Simpson because you couldn't find one with a jade handle? All Simpson 2-Band brushes have to be custom ordered and are going to cost you at least $250 for the smaller models. A huge 28mm Thater costs $200 and you have a choice of two different handles and 2 knot shapes. That's pretty awesome IMO.

I'm not bashing Simpson - I love my Chubby 2 2-Band. Just arguing a point Smile

Thater is all about the knot and ergonomics - not so much appearance IMO. Though they are quite good looking.

Thäter brushes are amongst the best, high quality brushes out there. The knots are consistent and very well made. Both 3 band and 2 band hair batches tend to be very consistent in their attributes (I bought quite a few over the last 5 years).

Thäter knots are medium dense: the 4125/49125 "Chubby" versions are more densely packed than the 4292 and other series, but never überdense.

Flow through is excellent, backbone is good, more with the 2 band than the 3 band. Some say they have not enough backbone - YMMV - for me this is just right!

Most sensational are the tips: super, pillow, cloud soft tips on the 3 Band, very soft tips on the 2 Band. In each 2 band and 3 band the most consistently soft tipped knots that I have encountered.

I have owned up to 10 Thäter brushes at one point and currently have settled on 4.

Stunning!

What models have you settled on? I'm tempted to upgrade from 26mm-> 28 or 30 if I can find them. I have the 4125/2 2 and 3 bands

Yeah I'm thinking Thater 4125/4s would be just right.
