As the title says, what is your favorite soap (or cream) when you straight shave.
For me there is a difference, and products that work well with a safety razor don't work that well with a straight, maybe bot a slick. Also, because it is a longer shave, some soaps irritate my skin if they are left on it after a while, like La Toja stick which is otherwise wonderful with safety razors.

For me, L'Occitane Cade and Proraso provide the best lather. Cade is top notch, IMO, abd while Proraso is not my first choice with safety razors, it is truly excellent with the straights.

How about you?

I rotate MdC, PdP, MWF, Harris Marlborough (soap, and cream), Mike's, Proraso Blue, and Stirling at the moment, and I must say I'm particularly fond of Stirling. The yogurt-like consistency of the lather works beautifully with straights.

Why MdC, of course.

Martin de Candre primarily and I enjoy Santa Maria Novella as well. As far as soaps and creams these are two of my only reorders in the future. In a pinch I can do Proraso cream / Bigelow... and I wouldn't mind trying the Omega in the tube, and just might in the near future. Not to sound snobbish, but I prefer my shave den to be small and of the highest quality, thus the MdC and SMN dominate, as does my penchant for only shaving with vintage Heljestrands.

MDC, like La Toja, irritates my skin during shaves that take longer time.
Never tried the cream but I do own a bowl of Omega soap and I find it pretty mediocre.

Proraso works...but Mike's and Tabac are FAR slicker and much more protective when straight shaving, for me.

I've only tried around 30 or so and by far my go to is Tabac. The Euro Palmolive does a good job and the lowly stick of Arko will beat the pants off anything offered by Harris. They do fair with DE's but not straights.
I prefer something that can lubricate my skin. While I rinse off and can still feel a slick surface I know it's there. Most others just act like regular soap.

I've lathered each side of my face with different soaps and it is night and day as if I'm using two different razors. One dull and the other is sharp.

I would also say Tabac. For some reason, I feel it protects me more than others and hence it's my go to soap when trying a new DE or when I'm straight razor shaving after a while without practice.

I tried Tabac today and it was pretty darn good!
Going to stick with it for a while.

Yup, it's really darn good.
I also use it as a base line when trying several razors or when I make changes in my honing routine.
Like I said , same razor with different soaps is like two different razors.

Stirling seems to work best for me with a straight. Great slickness, hydrates well, post-shave feels soothed. Mikes is another top contender, but ends up a little bit behind Stirling in the slipperiness and skin-calming properties. Both have great cushion.

I have some JabonMan en route which I anticipate might be a great fit for me with my obsession with slickness as my #1 priority in a soap.

I always had good luck when using MWF with my straights, when I shaved with a straight.
