It's been many, many years since I've had such a bad shave........and I still have no idea why it was so bad.

It was yesterday. The prep was as usual - hot shower, damp face, and face lathering with MWF (which I've been using for a while). The brush was a Plisson and the razor was a Valet Autostrop with a GEM blade (the usual coated stainless steel blades I use in SE's).

This was the first shave with the Valet and the blade, so that was the only change from recent shaves. It could have been a bum blade, I guess. I've used the Valet extensively before (though not recently), so I know how to use it.

The thing is: it didn't feel like a bad shave. It seemed smooth, but after each pass there were weepers in my throat area. Normally, I would have moved to another razor, but I stuck with the Valet through the whole shave for some reason.

Big mistake. Angry

By the time I was done the shave was super-close, but my throat area was torn up. I even had a couple of weepers on my cheeks, which has not happened in a long, long while.

I've been using Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum as my aftershave recently. However, I got smart and realized that that would be a mistake. So I dug out my Nivea Cooling balm, and it seems to have done wonders as my face was not too tender this morning. I was able to shave (with a different razor this time).

I'm still not sure what the issue was. A part of me wants to use that same blade again to see if that was the issue, and a part of me is saying, "Why put yourself through that?"

Here's where Celestino needs to recommend unrefined shea butter, which apparently is better than anything, including Cialis, for just about everything.
Seriously, I think I would toss out that blade.

Sounds like a bum blade to me.
They are not that uncommon.

Bad blade... Happens more often than it should. I even had to toss one before the first pass was over.

Yep, that's what I thought too. I'll chuck it. Lord knows, given the number of blades I have, I don't have to conserve them.

Can't argue with the boys from the west coast and Prague. Toss the blade. The experiment is not worth it.

* John & Phil, I love it! Those were very good comments! Biggrin

* Yohann, I hope you heal well, my friend! I would recommend the shea butter, but, now, I am not sure I should. Biggrin
