Both cost roughly the same. I'm leaning toward the Rooney. What say ye?

A Stubby 2 (non XL) will be less dense and have better flow through than a Chubby 2. Its knot will also be smaller (more 24/25mm vs 27/28mm for the Chubby). Unless the Stubby is from the original "gel" batch the tips of the Chubby will be softer on the face. Both handles are well designed.

Agree wholeheartedly with above. I would also add that you will likely find the Chubby 2 to have superior backbone due in part to density and loft. I was super disappointed with the Rooney and absolutely love the Chubby...Density and backbone were the letdown for me...but some prefer less of one or both of those, just not me. Biggrin

German said pretty much everything, I'd just add that to me the CH2 2-band hair would be more similar to M&F's Finest. Have you considered a M&F 1/3 or Stubby 2XL in Finest?

In my view the more appropriate comparison is CH2 two band compared to a 2XL. And, it that challenge, I give a very slight edge to the 2XL because I find the 2XL's handle to be abetter fit in my hand.

* I would have to agree with Max, here. If you are going to compare the Chubby 2 2-band, then it should be compared to the Rooney Heritage Stubby 2XL which is a fantastic brush, but I would say the Chubby 2 doesn't splay as much as the 2XL and it isn't as soft, for me anyway, as the 2XL is pure gel, well, the one I used to have. I also much prefer the 2XL handle. Blush
If I could have it my way, I would have the Chubby 2 knot in the 2XL handle.

I think that us fair. N my experience the XL is more of a lather hog though than the Chubby (in 2 Band) and unless you have a "gel " batch XL the Simpson will feel softer.

I would have to disagree on the lather hog issue. I couldn't get any lather from the CH 2 in 2 band that I had. I had much better luck with my 2XL's on that front.

Ok, my thoughts...

XL original generation (famed gel tips) softest of the lot
XL significantly denser than Stubby

Current 2 band Simpson softer than current 2 band Rooney
CH2 significantly denser than Stubby
CH2 hogs more lather than Stubby
CH2 will have a larger face feel than the comparable Stubby

Chubby 3 band hogs more lather than Chubby 2 band (and is the brush that I'd label as a lather hog)

Stubby has a slightly taller handle than the Chubby

XL and Stubby IMO are not the same brushes (think Chubby versus Duke). IMO, the Stubby is more comparable to the Duke, while the XL is more aligned with the Chubby...

+1 Agree on the analogy of CH/Duke and XL/Stubby.

The Stubby Finest 2XL is much more dense than Chubby, the stubby handle is slightly smaller.

Finest has more backbone and a bit softer

Rooney XL
[Image: d6oAVwP.png]
2 rings on handle and more densely stuffed

Rooney Stubby
[Image: KOUWwxP.png]
1 ring on handle and less densely stuffed

Both are a size 3
The 3XL is a 30mm knot
The Stubby 3 is a 26mm knot

Both handles are 49mm high
3XL handle is 41mm wide
Stubby 3 handle is 38mm wide

3XL is around $100 more than the Stubby 3
