On Ebay there are quite a few options for buying the discontinued Colonia scented shaving cream and balm. So, I took the plunge, and they arrived today (tube, tub, and balm). I have test lathered both creams, and they seem to be the real deal Biggrin … as long as you don't care about the appearance being perfect, they are definitely banged up, as mentioned in the details.
However, I think that something happened to the AS balm, because it is much thinner viscosity than the bottle I already have, so I'm probably going to return the balm.

Anyway, thought I'd give y'all a heads up on the availability, and that the 2 shaving creams are good, but might wanna steer away from the ASB.

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered one of the tubs the other day and hope its the real deal. It says Colonia on the front in the photo which should id the old formulation.

To be honest, even though the scent of the Colonia version is wonderful, the performance and post-shave skin feel is MUCH better with the new version (see my post in the other AdP thread that is active today/yesterday).

Like not even close.

So, if you get the new version, I VERY VERY HIGHLY recommend you keep it and use it, even if you aren't as enamored with the scent as the old version.

You won't be disappointed with the performance of the new.
It's the only product that makes me wonder if XPEC is really number 1. (It is, but the new AdP is very very close).

I'm interested. I bought a tub off ebay... The packaging is rough looking and has some subtle differences from the jar I've had. The scent is off as well- more like Tabac than AdP.

Packaging is definitely not in pristine condition (but in fairness to the vendors, they did say that in their description).

I'm sorry to hear that, that's not my experience with the shave creams. They smell the same and perform the same.
Though I did have to return the ASBs because they were liquidy (much too thin) as opposed to balm-like… I assume from poor storage (temperature variation, light or heat exposure, whatever). But I got my refund!

We likely bought from different vendors. I saw three I believe, with listings. Glad you were able to score!

Thanks man! Wish you luck (if you return, if you try another vendor, in all future endeavors!).
Don't feel too bad, I've been "wronged" two times trying to chase one of the soaps on my Bucket List. I just try to store those memories in an area of my brain that I don't access often.

Thanks and likewise! I cant tell if its just old or something else. I dont know how the scent holds up if stored for years and years or somewhere warm. Have a good weekend!

Really good :-).

The smell is indeed a refined mens cologne. I am at a loss for examples but it favours a traditional smell skewed towards warm notes.

Lathered up easily and wasn't drying, plenty for 2-3 passes .

Only gripe was that the container has a small opening, so loading a brush off the top is a little tricky.

Straight was a perfect way to enjoy it as you take your time and enjoy the aroma.

Haha, I totally agree about the size of the opening. One of the smaller out there!
Otherwise it's hard to complain!

Ditto !

I have purchased 4 brushes with smaller knot size in 2-Band just for my Acqua Di Parma shaving croap - because the opening is too small for a Chubby 2 and most certainly a Chubby 3 size brush to load directly from the container without splaying the hairs too much for my liking.

I will be taking my AdP for its maiden voyage tomorrow morning along with my first use of my DaVinci 296. I know having used XXX several times that I will enjoy it immensely.

Best of luck. Make sure to load it like a soap as it definitely is not a cream.

For best result add water gradually.

AdP Colonia is hands down one of the best smelling shaving cream/soaps out there. Performance-wise it built up a nice lather that was more than adequate in glide and cushion. It did seem to breakdown a bit in my brush scuttle so it will be relegated to Summer shaving when I don't try to keep my lather warm. I will be doing some further testing to see if this was an anomaly or an actual consistent issue.

I used mine in a scuttle and didn't have a problem. Using hot tap water abd adding a few drops occasionally will prevent break down issues.

Does anyone have any experience with the current Aqua di Parma collezion barberie shaving cream?

I was in a department store yesterday and smelled the sample in the glass jar and I could hardly smell anything. Is this normal, is the performance any good?

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks!
