Hi friends,

I just put my hands on something new for me, here is 2 Gibbs, one is an adjustable and other no, they look in very good condition and are delivered to me with no less than 360 dedicated NOS blades

I never try this razor so before I have to open a blade pack, I'd like to have your feedback on it.

Thanks

and here is the Merkur/Hoffritz progress

Chris, beautiful razors, especially, the Progress.
Good luck with the Gibbs, but, unfortunately, I have never used one, so I can't help you.

Wow , great find! Finding the NOS blades sealed in such a quantity was a feat in itself.

The Gibbs is a fine shaver (there is also a lighter model with an aluminum head). Just be careful when tightening it, as the plastic handle tube tends to crack.

Enjoy it !

Gibbs is an outstanding razor. The +/- I have not shaved with but really enjoy the adjustable both in steel and Aluminum. The blades you can use and sell what you do not want to others having these razors.

I've tried both those razors in the past. The +/- wasn't a favourite of mine. It just wasn't a good shaver.

I do like the adjustable. I use mine with modern blades. I have to clip them to get them to work, but it's worth it.

Enjoy them.

First try today with the adjustable set on 5.

A very close, smooth shave with the dedicated NOS blade, can't be better in fact, I prefer this one rather than any gillette adjustable or Merkur Exclamation

I've never tried the Gibbs, but have always been interested. The proprietary blades are an obvious issue.

As to the vintage Progress; very nice. They are significantly lighter in weight than modern ones and have a thinner top cap. I hate to say it, but my strong preference is for the modern Progress over the vintage. YMMV of course.

The Gibbs adjustable is every bit as good as Progress or the Gillette's. Problem is finding the proprietary blades for it but modern ones can be adapted fairly easily. I believe a Dremel tool can cut the notches on the side.

I had special knobs made for the razor out of stainless which improved the weight and balance. Makes it a very smooth razor indeed.

I have a +/- Gibbs and 4 packs of blades but I usually just press force a regular blade on and when closing it makes notches by itself.Don,t use it very much but it is cool.

The Personna Micrometric is the Gibbs No. 15 Reglable with a head that fits conventional blades. The shave it provides is exceptional.

Here's mine:
