Many people like the retro plastic knob on the Merkur Progress and many people do not. For those who do not like the plastic knob, there are several options for customizing. Off the top of my head, I can think of two...you can buy a replacement knob from Bob's Razor Works or, you can send your Progress to Eric (Mer) Maier for customization.

Eric will customize your razor with indicator dots (your choice of color), he will replace the plastic knob with a metal one and will also smooth out the mechanism.

Below is a picture of a few different "Mergresses" borrowed from Eric's vendor thread.

I also have an IKON knob I bought from you for the long handle and an Elite gold veined quartz custom from Elite razor. You can also tint the knob as it is only plastic covering the metal center. You can also remove the split ring to make it easier to remove. Progress is really SO FAR my favorite razor . I have 5 . I have a BRW knob for the standard length and the Ikon..both of which I never use..should put them up for sale...need to learn how to post pictures.Just to add I also have the Mergress purchased from Lee,s Razors when they first came out...still the best of the best !!!!!!

I did not know that Elite Razors also does Progress customizations. Thank you for the tip. Cool

I have the BRW 3.5" Deluxe Bull Mastiff conversion and it's built like a tank. It's one of my top 2 razors.

I have seen the Bull Mastiff conversion and it looks impressive. Do you have any pictures to share? I'd love to see it.

I never knew ikon did these knobs. Hope Greg does a run.

I love my Mergress. The extra heft of the knob makes it a brilliant razor. In my top 5.

I got one of the Mergress upgrades from Eric this past week. It is a beautiful razor and is an awesome shaver. I have several of what I consider to be very nice razors and this Mergress doesn't give an inch to any of them. I'm glad to have it.

The Mergress razors are beautiful. I wish Merkur would switch to an all metal knob but I guess it would take away from the mystique of the Progress.

Hi Everyone,

I don't have one of your beauties yet... working on that with my wife Smile so I know I too will be able to enjoy what MANY have written here and on the B&B

Eric, from your perspective, is there any need to every have to break down a Progress/Mergress for cleaning- normal daily use?

--thanks
