Many people like the retro plastic knob on the Merkur Progress and many people do not. For those who do not like the plastic knob, there are several options for customizing. Off the top of my head, I can think of two...you can buy a replacement knob from Bob's Razor Works or, you can send your Progress to Eric (Mer) Maier for customization.
Eric will customize your razor with indicator dots (your choice of color), he will replace the plastic knob with a metal one and will also smooth out the mechanism.
Below is a picture of a few different "Mergresses" borrowed from Eric's vendor thread.

I also have an IKON knob I bought from you for the long handle and an Elite gold veined quartz custom from Elite razor. You can also tint the knob as it is only plastic covering the metal center. You can also remove the split ring to make it easier to remove. Progress is really SO FAR my favorite razor . I have 5 . I have a BRW knob for the standard length and the Ikon..both of which I never use..should put them up for sale...need to learn how to post pictures.Just to add I also have the Mergress purchased from Lee,s Razors when they first came out...still the best of the best !!!!!!

I have seen the Bull Mastiff conversion and it looks impressive. Do you have any pictures to share? I'd love to see it.

First post here!
Thanks everyone for the compliments. What started out as a "see if I can do it" project really turned into something. They're fun to do and I'm thankful for all your support.
Thanks!
Eric

Eric, from your perspective, is there any need to every have to break down a Progress/Mergress for cleaning- normal daily use?
