Ok, time to post my latest brush.
This is only my third brush in total, so keep in mind my lack of reference.
I have been DE shaving for 5 months and I am 100% hooked.
Initially I considered one of the benefits of wet shaving being cost reduction, that was before I discovered the world of brushes (and the enormous offering of razors).
Well, after my initial DE shave purchase I started plowing through info on the internet, and with that quickly developed a serious case of RAD. It should be said I am not unhappy with this "disease".

My first brush was a Vie-Long grey badger, at this time it was a mere fluke as I had read about Vie-Long and stumbled upon a shop in Madrid (but didn't know what badger hair grade I actually purchased. After finding this brush a bit to scritchy for my sensitive skin I went back to the internet.
Second brush was a Muhle black fibre, super soft and great for palm and bowl lathering. A true lather bomb.

As I said earlier, a serious case of RAD had already been developed, so I started looking for brush number 3.
I decided I wanted a face lathering brush, and looked at so many brushes (going through close to a hundred reviews).
I wanted a soft brush that still had good backbone, and had a few options that I was narrowing down one by one.
Then I came across this thread...
Teiste Custom Shavemac
After reading this thread it was all of a sudden clear to me what I wanted (more or less). I wanted a D01 Silvertip with a shorter loft (the Silvertip providing softness and the densely packed D01 in combination with a shorter loft would give the wanted backbone). In addition to getting the knot I wanted, I could also choose any handle.
So I started emailing Bernd at Shavemac, thank you for your patience Bernd, to finalize the details.
I couldn't decide between 48 and 50mm loft, so I asked Bernd if he could make it 49mm. The answer was he could indeed, but there was a +/- 1mm tolerance for the loft (so problem solved, it will be between 48-50mm).
For handle I chose the Colonia No.1 (but asked Bernd to write Colonia No.2 on mine as I had modified the specs).

Specs
  • 22mm knot
  • 49mm loft (just below 49 when I meassured)
  • Fan shape
  • Colonia custom handle

The brush is not fully broken in yet, but have received exactly what I expected. Makes great lather, excellent backbone and really soft tips (that I expect will get a little softer once broken in).
It's a beautifull work of art.
The brush sheaded bristles on the first few uses but that was all.

I've already started thinking about my next brush, the specs are forming in my head (and have asked Bernd for some initial input).
Ordering another brush so quickly is actually not just my RAD talking, but it's a real case of need.
My black fibre brush is now my travel brush (which is great as it dries quickly) and I sold my Vie-Long (as it was to scritchy for me) which leaves me with only one brush for my daily shave (and as a brush should dry completely before next use this is at least one brush to few).

Some pics, sorry about the bad lighting.

Can you post some bigger pictures? I can't read the inscription on the base. It does look like a beauty though!

The inscription is as his signature, I believe.

Congratulations on a wonderful brush.

Correct, it means "Fate remains wholly inexorable" or simply don't beat yourself about things you cannot change.

Another custom on its way...

I have been so satisfied with my "short" loft custom D01 that I decided to get another custom made brush from Bernd.
This time I wanted one for bowl/palm lathering and decided to design my own handle, using the 944 shape.
The handle is faux tortoise and imitation horn.

D01 Silvertip
23mm knot
53mm loft
Bulb shape

I have 3 shavemac brushes and love them all, but I still lust after a Colonia 1 Silvertip. Bernd has some very nice handles but the Beehive and the Colonia 1 have to be my favourites. Also, his Finest badger is well worth a try.

I agree, the Colonia is a truly beautiful handle (I just renamed mine Colonia No.2 as I altered the specs on the Knott). I have heard great things about Bernd's Finest but not tried it (yet).

Bernd did the artwork, but I will take credit for the design. So, thank you :-)
I will share my lathering experience in this thread.
