Looking over Phil's post about the Mergress and modified Progress razors, I just wanted to chime in with a couple items. First, Eric did a Progress conversion for me to an XL handle. While I ended up not liking the shave compared to the Futur and so ended up selling it, I must say Eric's work was top notch. The weight ratio was perfect.

Anyway, while I was e-mailing with Eric I asked if he could do me a favor. I suffer from Neovascularization which is essentially blood vessels growing through my corneas. As such I cannot wear contacts and glasses give me a massive headache. Luckily for me my overall vision allows for newspaper reading as well as passing a drivers exam w/o corrective lenses. Nonetheless my vision is not always great, especially when I am first waking up or am tired.

I asked Eric if he would be willing to paint the numbers on my Futur so that they would be more legible for me. He said no problem, offered a price I thought was too cheap (so I upped it a bit) and shipped it off to him for his magic. I got it back and it is awesome. Legible to me at any given time. Just thought I would share what a great guy Eric is.

My vision is fine and it' s hard for me to see the stinkin things. I do like that the numbers don't dominate the design, but I wish they had done something to make them stand out just a bit--especially on the chrome.

Eric has a steady hand I see, those numbers are small. I thought about wiping some nail polish over the numbers then wiping the excess off to avoid using a brush. I have no clue if that would work or not.

He did a great job, thanks for sharing.

Yep, this works. I've used it on several razors. Paint it on with the nail polish brush, and wipe it off with a soft cloth. Keep some nail polish remover on hand, in case the stuff dries out (wet the cloth with the nail polish remover, and use that to wipe of the dried nail polish). It's easy to do, and it's hard to mess it up. Smile

Nice job by Eric on the Futur, though. It really brings out the numbers.

Nice, here's what I did to improve upon my Futur as well. I prefer my second attempt shown towards the end of the thread.

You CAN make modifications...BRW (Bob) cut grooves in one of mine like the new improved style and Eric saw his posting on B @ B a while back...he said however he did not want to do any more because of plating issues...don,t know why..you do not have to replate after cutting the grooves..looks cool two tone anyway. If you want to see a picture look at B @ B under Merkur Futur and Knurling Tool (7/4/06) then go to 7/20/10 with a post by Cooncatbob #34 and Mer #35.

Looks like I'm off to buy some satin black nail polish. The pen grip is cool looking as well, I've never had any issues with grip, but it just looks cool.
