This is a really brief video about how to use an alum shaving block stone or stick after the shave. You can leave it and apply the after shave lotion or balm or later wash it with cold water and apply the after shave lotion or balm.

I always wash it off my face 10-20 sec after use. I find that it leaves a thin film on my skin and also the skin becomes ... tight, and it bothers me.
What do you do after you apply Alum? Leave it on and continue with AS or wash it off?

I leave it on. I love the tightness that comes a couple of minutes later.

I usually leave it on and apply a balm afterwards.

I leave it on, and use it as my deodorant stick as well. Great stuff Alum is.

I rinse it off and apply a balm or some Aloe-Vera gel

Thanks for the info. I finally tried an alum stick (RazoRock) and it's been working great for me. It seems to clear up some minor acne that I get in the cheek areas. I also stopped using after shave balm, and that seems to help clear up my skin too, although I miss the moisturizing properties of the balm!! Sad

Anyone have a suggestion for a moisturizing AS balm that does not contribute to acne?

I like an inexpensive Aloe Vera gel. It's soothing but not greasy.
