I would like to try to revive the "Mournful Monday" tradition started here a couple years ago (see http://shavenook.com/thread-mournful-monday-shaves) of using vintage or discontinued equipment and products for Monday shaves. I personally like old shaving stuff, partially because of the history and tradition they represent, partially because I think a lot of them were made with better quality than modern equivalents, and partially just because I'm an old fart.

Please look through your stashes and dens and try to find older razors, blades, brushes, soaps and creams, and aftershaves, and use and post about them in the SOTD section each Monday for all of us who are interested to see and enjoy. Thanks.

John I use something vintage everyday. All my razors are from 1920's to 1960's, most from the 50's. Every other blade I use is vintage, many of my brushes are too. I don't have any vintage soaps or creams but it's not for lack of wanting them. All for the same reasons you mentioned, so yeah, I'm in.

I always tried to take part... when I remembered. I'm an old fart too and well, memory is the first thing to go. Just about when I was getting' it a bit it faded out of existence.

I too use something vintage most every day.

I'm in when I can remember. I'm serious about this memory thing... so much going on and I can't keep track of a 3 ring circus.

1960's is "vintage," Oh, my. I started shaving in '62. I guess I'm not old, just "vintage." That must mean that I have a vintage shave every day, no matter what my hardware or software. Rolleyes

Well, that just might put me out of this as I don't use any vintage gear, whatsoever. Sorry, John! Blush

Best of luck to you all, though!

I got soaps, brushes, razors, blades and aftershaves. Now if I could just learn to take an interesting photograph I would be all set!

OK, this having been hashed out, does it take someone with big guns to start this or can anyone begin the thread in that section? Never having done it and never having the need to do it, I just don't know. If anyone can start a thread there, it's just a matter (IMO) to get it sanctioned. Yes? I think that's been done. Correct?

OK, now getting the vintage folks (that'd be me) to remember the change is the hard part. The problem is that in retirement every day is the same as the next. It's all just the responsibility of being retired and I for one take that seriously (in an irreverent way). No days off, no weekends, no vacation, just day after day of retirement and the responsibility that that imposes on one.

Well, there is a thread already here, which hasn't been used in a while:
http://shavenook.com/thread-mournful-mon...ves?page=2

But you also can just post your daily shave in the SOTD section and note that you used vintage/discontinued stuff.

Not everything has to be vintage, of course. But whatever you do have that is old or discontinued, use it on Mondays.

If you were using "vintage" products when they were new items, you are not vintage .... you're old. 24
