My new Shavemac custom brush arrived yesterday and I gave it a whirl today.

These are the specifications I ordered from Bernd:

Shavemac logo: Logo on bottom
Quality and Size: 25 mm Silvertip D01
Knot Shape: Fan Shape
Hair length (Loft): 56 mm
Color: imitation horn
shape: 102

and this is the brush that arrived.

The knot specifications are exactly what was ordered and the handle size is 50 x 38mm.

It also arrived with a puck of Haslinger Sandalwood soap as a freebie which I thought was a nice touch.

I started by seeing how well it would perform with a hard soap, chose some D R Harris Almond and these are the results from bowl lathering in my smaller bowl:

I was really impressed with how well this brush worked with the soap and thought I'd try it out with some cream.

Here's the results of bowl lathering with D R Harris Windsor cream:

I was also very impressed with the results it gave with cream.

What I love about this brush is that it hits the sweet spot between floppiness and backbone. It has sufficient backbone to work really well with soaps and feels as luxurious as my large Kent's and my EJ Silvertips in use.

The other thing I love is the bloom:

All-in-all, this brush has ticked all the boxes and is everything I could ask for in a bowl lathering brush.

It certainly has pride of place in the centre of my collection of brushes and really is an awesome brush. Smile

Here's a final picture of it with my other shavemac brushes:

Thats a very nice brush, hıpe you enjoy it. I wonder why did you select the loft as 56. I dont have any experience with a silvertip and I'm planning to order a 24mm D01 fan shape with 48mm loft. Will it be to hard with this loft length?

What a beautiful lineup of brushes. I thoroughly enjoy my Shavemac D01 three band, as it's soft but with enough backbone for face lathering. Thank for sharing.

Thanks guys. Smile

Deuce - the blue brush is a custom 24/49 D01 fan and has a gorgeous knot.

I deliberately chose a 56mm knot as that is the loft my 439 has and I thought that that loft would work well with a 102 handle.

I almost specified a loft of 60mm as my 410 Silvertip has a loft of 58mm and that works really well in a bulb-shaped knot.

I'm so pleased I settled on 56mm as the brush feels perfect.

A 24/48 D01 3-band fan is a popular choice and works really well.

What handle are you planning on specifying with the knot?

I'm planning to use it with my Kimson Horn Handle. I assume that this knot doesn't have any scratchy feeling on your face?

That's a gorgeous handle.

I've found there to be a very, very small amount of scritchiness from 3 band D01 knots - they are by no means uncomfortable knots to use (please bear in mind that I only ever bowl lather with brushes so if you're intending to face lather then you may need to seek the views of others).

My review of the Semogue 2013 SE may be if some use in helping to establish a comparison with other brushes:

Congrats on the new brush! It looks gorgeous Biggrin!

I have been considering that exact handle in the exact color for my next custom order from Shavemac. I keep pushing it off, but seeing this thread certainly strengthens the temptation. I want another D01 3 band as I agree with you in that it hits the sweet spot between floppiness and backbone. However, I have also been wanting to try the Finest as I have not had any experience with that hair yet...so the two brushes in my order will likely be an Americana handle (this one probably paired with the D01 knot) and the 102 (probably for the Finest knot). Although I won't be using it for bowl lathering, the 102 still struck me as a potentially very comfortable handle for face lathering.
